They finally cracked the client code on one of my all time favorite
MMORPG's. You can now play DAOC - Dark Age of Camelot free (as in
beer) online. If you haven't played this game before, grab the client
and give it a try, it's the only MMORPG I was able to play for 5 years
straight and not get sick of. If you have played it and just didn't
want to shell out the cash anymore, now is the opportunity to get your
fix.
DAOC is a great game and the graphics and engine have all been
maintained and are very modern, the game is still in active use today.

Here is how you do it:
1. Download and install the client. Instructions are here:

the DAOC official updater to update the client, so once the install is
complete you want to cancel and not start playing. If you use the
official updater the client version will be too new. The full game
install is 2.5 gigs.
2. Download DAOCportal program here, this allows you to launch the
program to connect to the free servers:
http://www.daocportal.net/downloads/SetupDAoCPortal.msiUse DAOCportal to launch the program and run the update option from
this. This will give you the correct client upgrade to version 1.88.
3. Just select the server from the list and hit play through the
DAOCportal program. I made a character on uthgard. There is no
pre-registration required. Just type in a username and password and
as long as that username is not in use it will launch the game and
bring you to the character creation. I made a character in the
midgard realm.
