Not sure of anything around the state to get these engines rebuilt... However you can check out http://www.nippon-motors.com/ in California. First gen motors are $2400, Second gen motors are $2750. I'm pretty sure you can get rebuilds done at http://www.groundzeroperformance.com/ however some people have problems waiting longer than expected for their work to be done. You could also check out http://www.3kgtmotorsports.com/index.php. They've done alot of rebuilds for 3/S owners. Are you looking at rebuilding it to put in stronger internals or because everything went BOOM? hehe. You can buy stock short blocks for I believe around $3000 or so at a Mitsu dealer, likely cheaper if you call Kuettner Motors here in Waukesha as they offer W3SI members a discount. After hearing some horror stories about rebuilt engines by supposedly shops that knew what they were doing, I would personally opt for a stock short block myself if I had to make the choice, but I guess that depends on your reason for wanting this.

yeah i want to upgrade the internals of the engine. This engine has 245,000 miles on it, i cant believe it didnt blow up yet. But I dont know how much longer shes going to last, she smokes pretty bad when she just idles for awhile, and thats running a mobil 1 oil through her. So i figure its about time for a overhaul for her. I have a few friends that are mechanics and they said they would help me do it myself, so i am thinking about doing that. I wanted to know if anyone had any comments or suggestions on what i should do with the engine for the overhaul? thanks

How soon are you looking to have it finished?
Is it being stored all winter?
Any specifics you want out of the internals?
Is this a TT or N/A?
I'm sure you just need new rings and/or valve seals. But it wouldnt hurt to get all new stuff if you have the time and money.

I would like to get it done this winter, but thats not giong to happen since i have to drive it this winter. Unless i get my 96 Trans Am out, but i wouldnt get anywhere with that. Tires are bald anyways, so not good. So probably when spring comes around i am going to rebuild her. i am going to sell my trans am, every since i got my stealth, i love it more then the TA. I would like to redo all the internal specs of the engine, so i was just wondering what kind of things i can do with it and if anyone has any sugguestions, its only a N/A. so any help would be appreciated

Well what you can do depends on how much you want to spend. I mean you could spend 8 grand on a rebuild if you wanted to.
Higher compression forged pistons 2mm overbore lightweight rods stage 3 heads w/ ferrera valves valve springs with titanium retainers new cams ...etc...

J-Rock wrote: she smokes pretty bad when she just idles for awhile That's just old/leaky valve seals + head gaskets. That's nothing major. Not worth throwing the whole motor away. Sounds to me like you just may need a little head work. How's your oil pressure? I haven't had any good experiences with rebuilt (DSM) engines in the past. This is after going through 3 different machine shops. I'm kinda leary about anyone local... My current car has a brand new short block w/ DR heads. Just under $3K from Conicelli ( www.partznet.com) for the block, and $1700 for the heads. Plus $300 something for all the gaskets and other needed parts. Pricey, but that's still cheeper than getting the motor rebuilt 3 times from a shops mess-ups...

the oil pressure is still good, i have checked the compression of all the cylinders and thats all good. I am thinking the heads do need some adjusting and some new gaskets. Whats the differences between different heads that u can get and wheres a good place to get all the gaskets and bearings from? any suggestions would be helpful...

Do you know how to check for shaft-play in the turbos? J-Rock wrote: I am thinking the heads do need some adjusting and some new gaskets. I've done business with all the following and been very pleased with them all. Renner Mitsu in Milwaukee (not the cheepest, but the most convienent) Conicelli Mitsu Ty at Speed Factor. www.speedfactor.netHere's what's all done to the heads in my car: http://www.dynamicracing.com/customer/p ... =53&page=1I did quite a bit of research and found these to be one of the best sets of heads on the market for our cars. ...and no Jesse, I'm not saying that just to be kissing Matt's a$$ either.

J-ROCK, For stock internals, you can check out Kuettner Mitsubishi in Waukesha, Wi. They provide a W3SI discount on parts... Just make sure to ask for it when talking to the guys in the parts dept. G-Ell, LOL. I have *NO* problem with DR heads, in fact, I hear nothing but great things about them. If I were to get new heads, DR would be the place I'd go too. My beef is just with certain people on 3si that are DR fanboys and think just because Matt and his cars reach a certain level (regarding track times), that everyone running his products will reach the same level. That's what irritates me, because no one even comes close. He's in a class of his own. On the flipside, DR does make good products and obviously is a step ahead most of the other tuner shops. I know you're not a DR fanboy, haha, although I may razz ya about it now and again just to push your buttons, hehe. Nothing wrong with a friendly rib now and again...
