TT4ME wrote: Like I said before, judging by pics, your ECU is messed up. A simple cap replace will not fix the problem. You can see where something drained out and ate at the board. How can this be confirmed by just looking at the pics? I do not see any physical damage to the board. Yes, I see residue on the board which could be flux. A little bit of isopropyl alcohol will most likely remove it. Almost all of the components on the PCB can be replaced, whether it be surface mount or through hole. Even if the traces and/or pads were damaged, they can be repaired fairly easily. What do you think the companies that rebuilds ECU's do? Yep, replace bad components and repair any damage to the board. But I suppose the term "rebuilt" is more appealing to the consumer as opposed to "repaired".

ecu rebuild can be done for as low as $75 - 100. but I'm wondering what exactly do they do? just replacing caps? or they can actually bring to live totally dead unit?

Companies like AvPro put the ECU's on a bench to test them to test certain cicuits.
And yes, sometimes an ECU rebuild consists of only a capacitor replacement and cleaning.

I did this http://www.stealth316.com/2-diagcodes91-93.htmand I got nothing, no volts at all. thats after replacing caps. I checked caps with volt meter and they have volts while key is in ON position.

Did you install the caps with the correct polarity? The lead with the stripe is negative.
According to Jeff's site, if the ECU does not pulse, then there is a fault with the ECU.
But the signal/wave pattern chart he gives shows a Low to High voltage reading when there is a fault with the ECU. So it should stay at 12v without any change in voltage (no pulsing/sweeping). Or maybe I'm interpreting it incorrectly.

no made sure about polarity, its all good. or they would exp load, more likely. also, someone, on 3si told me that if the stock "boost" gauge is showing 0 (zero) with key in RUN position, that means ecu is good, and if its full boost than ecu is bad. is this true? mine showing at 0.

The 92 jumps up to -3 on RUN. Rebuilt ECU last summer. Doesn't mean my car is "correct" but it does run well!

well, its been some time, and my car still not running. I have not touched it for more than a months till last night. I want it running before umg could somebody tell me or show me where to look to trace my problem? so far no fuel or park. MFI works. I checked some terminals (found on stealth316.com) on ecu, they work. I just don't want to sent my ecu for a rebuild and find out that it wasn't ecu. for some reason I think its an electrical issue. wire corroded?

If you'd like we can put your ECU in my car and see if it starts. Mine is a '92. PM me on my board if you want to try it.

I'm slightly intoxicated, and don't feel like looking up the procedure to test the PTU. But if you want to borrow one temporarily to try, I have at least one laying around.

I was checking for codes with analog voltmeter. and it looks like I have multiple codes, and to be sure I was wondering what can I use to read them without having to guess. can I do that with MMC software? or anything like that? I know pocketLogger can do it but thats like $40 for the software. is there any other alternative?
