Friday I was on my way to Oconomowoc from Milwaukee, and my 1992 N/A started having an acceleration issue... it would be okay until halfway down on the throttle and then it would lose all power and act like it wasn't firing... This wasn't good on the highway, i couldn't do much faster than 40mph... I though something might be wrong with the air intake, since at a certain steady RPM/throttle position it would run fine. I then noticed my Voltage gauge was reading 10V...and lower. Eventually I had to pull over because i could just not get enough power or acceleration to get going, by this time, my CD player was turning on and off erratically, and my Voltage meter was at the bottom.
I had an issue where my positive battery cable had come loose before so I pulled over to check that, and while i was at it i popped the fuse cover and looked at the 120A fuse for my alternator, and it looked weird, i pulled it out and it basically disintegrated in my hand.... Not having a spare, i had to get the car towed off the highway to the nearest park-n-ride...
So first of all I need a replacement 120A fuse for the alternator, and then someone to be able to help me troubleshoot a bit with a few tools and see whats going on, and at least help me get my car back home, or to someone's garage to get worked on.
(im going to double post this on 3si....thanks guys)

That's so weird. There's a green 3k with a hoop spoiler on the side of I43 south bound near Mequon. I just saw it there 10 minutes ago on my way home from work. Nobody was in or around it otherwise I would have pulled off to help. Seems they're dropping like flies.

I can get out there, it is fairly close to my house, I could run over sometime after work tomorrow if you have the fuse by that point.

So what is up with you and your car breaking down? lol. Hopefully you get it fix soon. I'll give you a hand if you weren't almost 3 hours away from me. GL getting it fix and driveable.

Whatever the issue is with the battery cable - I'd suggest getting that tight before installing the new fuse. I've seen a car come here in the past with a blown fuse due to the crappy cables touching each other...
Most part stores don't sell that 120 fuse - you might have to check with a dealer.
Then a simple voltmeter should tell you if the alternator is working once you get it started.

I'm sure I have an extra fuse. Let me know if you are interested. I have extra battery cables too. Free if you come pick them up.

Thanks A923KGT, I moved to milwaukee since we last talked. I think I have a spare fuse in platteville though that I am getting shipped overnight here. I'm going to need that first before I can do anything.

3000GT back online!
Basically what happened is i had a loose battery cable at the terminal. Im guessing the shorting, and loose connection caused too much draw and blew the original fuse but not completely... (i saw the inside of it looked melted) so it must've had a good enough connection to still work in random ways, but not enough to keep the voltage up... I must have been running the car on battery power only, which is why the car slowely died.
Anyway... its all good now.
