Update on the R-12 front, I did find it for $40/can. If anyone wants any that will be at the Aug19 event or can have someone there buy it for them I'm taking orders. Respond to this thread with how many cans you want and I will bring them up to Green Bay with me. Cash on delivery! I'll probably end up fronting quite a bit of loot depending on who all wants some. I'll probably order at the end of next week.

How much is in a can? Are the cans the same exact cans that R134a comes in (so my hose will work)?

As far as your hose working, man I am not qualified to answer that question! That's between you and your. . . .mechanic. . See how you are, asking me technical questions, damn, I'm a computer guy, not a mechanic Jim! From the vendor: "All of our R-12 FREON is packaged in 12oz. cans". Please stop hurting my head, just kidding, I'll answer whatever questions I can, I'm just trying to figure out if I need to order a case of cans or just individual cans. Alright G-ELL, I can also get "2 Cans FREON, Tap, and hose. Charges one vehicle for $85", but they are just 12 oz cans so if you have what it takes then we are golden. Chad, register for a damn account and answer those damn technical questions already. And I'll take paypal to my e-mail address. But cash on delivery is fine too. Alright homies, let me know if you have any other questions and I'll do my best to bounce questions off my mechanic and relay them here, so hit me up. Looking forward to the unofficial, official GbGathering. Bret

Our cars take about 1.5 cans if they're 12oz (so you need two). If they're the same 12oz cans that R134a comes in, then my hose will work perfectly, and I can charge your system.

I am relatively certain that they are the same, I'll double-check with mechanic Chad tomorrow. I'm not allowed to give mechanical advice or even touch anything even remotely mechanical for good reason. G-ELL wrote: Our cars take about 1.5 cans if they're 12oz (so you need two). Hoses are not interchangeable between R-12 and R-134A. They do sell adaptors though. I hate to be a party pooper but why not have the R-12 pumped out by a certified individual and switch to R-134A? It's only $8.00 per 12 ounce can.

My understanding, again from my mechanic is that the R-12 blows colder and the conversion is a bit of a hack, so I am going to stick with original as long as possible. ron/mon wrote: Hoses are not interchangeable between R-12 and R-134A. It's only $8.00 per 12 ounce can. the reason the conversion is not as cold is the properties of the chemicals. R-12 worked better because it could be compressed, and expanded better than the R-134a. The new stuff isn't a hack, it's just more enviromentally friendly. and doesn't work quite as well, but still works bettter than rolling down the window on a 100 deg day...

The molecules are much smaller for R134a than R12, so it escapes out faster than R12 if you have a small leak. My 3000's AC runs at 42
