I have had the problem where the outside of the cable cracks, then when you move the inside cable (with the shifter) some of the movement is used up by opening the crack. Once the crack turns into a split then all of the movement is used to open the split. Just like the old days when one end of the choke cable falls off and the choke dosen't work anymore. Before removing the x-mission I would have someone watch the levers on the tranny while being shifted to be sure there is good movement at the levers. This may not be the problem but is very easy to check.

Possibly looking at the weekend of the 22nd to do some work, this upcoming weekend is Easter so that's shot, and the last weekend in April I'm out of town.
Will keep everyone posted..

Thats a bummer Brett. It definitely sounds like something internal to the tranny. Which means you rebuild it yourself or get a Kormex.
Glad to see the W3SI crew came to the rescue. Very nice!
later, Curt

Side note: I was at the mitsu dealership yesterday, (picking up my thermostat gasket. ) and I asked about getting an input shaft seal. The parts guy told me I needed a new 7,000 dollar transmission if my seal started leaking... "It's a sealed unit. They don't come apart."

Is it just me, or do dealer parts persons get dumber by the minute. curt_gendron wrote: Thats a bummer Brett. It definitely sounds like something internal to the tranny. Something about legality of rebuilding them with no contract to do so or supposedly get parts from Getrag... Useless dartsab! Best, SJ

Kormex will sell you that seal.

Alright guys, is anyone able to give me some help next weekend, the weekend of the 21st? I'll try to get some help via air tools and such, but I'd like to figure out what we're dealing with with enough time to fix anything so I don't have to cancel out on the UMG... I can provide booze, food, shelter, pool, foosball for all those interested... Also is there anything I can do now to help speed things up for then... I'm not sure what I all need to start disconnecting or where to begin on a project like this, anyone have any how-to's or walkthroughs with pics? Thanks

Brett
Stealth316.com has a write up on this.
If you want to get started, and are not real comfortable with it... You can take off the exhaust, transfer case, and drain the transmission.
Up top you can remove the battery, battery tray, air breather, Y-pipe.
Even if you aren't real sure about the rest of the project, you can pretty easily do these things.
You can call me if you need suggestions.
