I was informed that I will probably need a new or rebuilt tranny on my 94 Stealth R/t luxury. It is an automatic. Tranny specialist said he could probably find the replacement parts but it could potentially cost 2500-5000. I dont know what kind of transmission will work in this car.
Can anyone answer ?
Does the 3000gt use the same tranny? What year/years have the same tranny? Dodge parts no longer available. Does anybody make a new transmission that will fit? Custom?
The car only has 70k miles and I had the engine Lifters replaced last year. I really dont want to scrap it and part it out!
Thanks for any help Jason Maggio

You can use any automatic tranny from 91-99 3000GTs and Stealths.
I had to get a auto tranny for the wifeey's 3000GT a few years ago. The dealer got me a remanned tranny for $1,800. That was pretty good price. I'm sure you can still get one from the dealer for $2,000.
And don't go to the Dodge dealer, go to the Mitsu dealer. Your car is a Mitsubishi.

Curt is right, you can use any automatic transmission from a 3000GT or Stealth. SOHC or DOHC engine doesn't matter. You might even be able to use one from a FWD turbo DSM, does anybody know for sure?
***you may need to change your axles due to the spline count difference between 1st and 2nd gen axles/differentials***
I've seen auto trannys go for $600-700 buy it now on ebay. If you are thinking of buying a new one, I might be able to save you a little cash through the dealership. Where are you located?

I dont know about the any year thing. I was going to put an extra ATX trans from my 91 parts car into someones car and the wire harness was different. It is possible to convert them, but you have to crack the trans open to do so.

Thanks for the very fast replies. I called the nearest Mitsu Dealer and ordered a Remanufactured tranny for 2050 plus tax. Install will be around 500-600 since I have no skills in that area. This will include a warranty because they are doing the install. Of course this may seem high for alot of ppl here. It is acceptable. There was a 2nd Generation Auto Transmission on Ebay that didn't sell yesterday for 499.00 but then it who knows what it has left in it. I am hoping to have as much problem free enjoyment for years to come.
Thanks again
Jason

That isn't too outragous. Its nice to have a warrenty with it, so you don't have to worry for awhile. I'm sure it would have been much worse if you would have had a Dodge dealer do it. eeek!

There is a difference in the early 1G trannys and the 93+ trannys. The difference is the axle spline counts of the half shafts. If you took the time to swap out the differentials, then they would work just fine. Same thing goes with the manual trannys.
All the plugs (speed cable, reverse lights...) and the bolt patern is the same.
If you're not sure, just compare the part numbers located on the bell housings.
