So my devil car has another problem . When I'm accelerating, there's this high pitched whiny noise that gets higher pitched the faster I go. Then when I let off, the noise is twice as loud and annoying as I slow down. If I don't downshift and just put it in nuetral and brake to slow down, there is little to no noise at all, but as soon as I put it back in gear it sounds like shit again. Any ideas?

You're sure it's comming from the tranny? Check your fluids lately? Mainly the transfer case?

Transfer case was replaced about two years ago when I got a letter from mitsu regarding the recall. When I noticed the noise I pulled it into a nearby Meineke right away and they put it up on the lift and didn't notice any fluids leaking... I asked him if it might be the transfer case and he said no and he's pretty sure its something with the transmission. Is there anyone who could meet up with me and give me a second opinion??

Does it make sense for me to see if the transmission just needs to be flushed?

It's worth a shot. When you drain the fluid, inspect it for metal flakes and gray goo.
Changing tranny fluid is no worse than changing oil. You can do it yourself.

I do. http://www.stealth316.com/2-awddrainfill.htmIt might be worth your time to have someone knowledgeable with these cars who's close by you (ie Jeff aka 440 4x4) check out what going on. I can't really help you much over the forums other than speculate.

I had my tranny rebuilt in january, sincros, inner blockring on second gear syncro, berrings, shifting forks,($2,500), about three weeks later on the way home from work my tranny started to make a whining noise by the time i got home it was screaming every time i engaged a gear, when i pushed the clutch in it just got louder, I could aslo feel a slight vibration through my shifter, turned out one of the bearrings was installed wrong and it burnt out. had the tranny torn out again, this time i replaced all the blockrings in first and second and put in a new hub & slide for first and second, and replaced the bearring(another$1,000 no labor charge) I hope thats not the case for you if you car has been giving you problems but you might want to check that if changing the fluid doesn't fix the problem Jeff

Well, it makes a whiny noise, but no vibration and it doesn't get louder when I push in the clutch, it gets quieter... so hopefully your problem was different. Hopefully...

If you arent noticing any problems shifting or with vibration, it could just be the bearing drying up and metal rubbing on metal.

So should I first try changing the fluid, or should I take it somewhere and have them check the bearing? I just don't wanna have a shop tell me thay need to do more than they have to and rape me for money.
