My car's rear end is drifting loose around 30-40 mph and 70-80 mph.
It feels like the rear end is bouncing back and forth.
I haven't had an alignment since 2001 so it might be off.
Maybe parts might need to be replaced? The struts have 130k miles on them but each corner only bounces once and the ECS still works. The wheel bearings might be shot or unloaded. The bushings might be bad. The AWS could have failed.
I'm guessing the struts and alignment are all that is bad.
Any place around here that can do a 4-wheel alignment right and cheap?

If it were me, I'd go to Kuettner. Brad did an alignment there for me and checked the AWS on my track car. Besides them, I know Jeff (440 4x4) has some place he and Jim use from time to time around Layton or something.

My old 91 TT had the same issue, so I did a little research. I found a very good write-up (can't remember if it was on 3si or galantvr4.org) where a guy did several things to try and correct the issue.
From what I remember, the one that had the biggest impact was replacing the worn rear bushings where the rear steering rack attaches to the wheel hub. In lame mans terms, what was happening was the worn bushing was creating a slight give in the rack causing the wheel to delay turning for a brief moment and continue to turn after the rack arm was extended. We're only talking maybe half a degree at most, but replacing it with a solid urithane bushing really helped the issue.
Some other things he attempted included cleaning the whole system and replacing the fluid, as well as something with replacing/repairing the check valve, new rear struts, new tires, and fresh alignment.
I can't find that post at the moment...

I had two nice bang curb checks on the rear that might have upset the alignment. The force of the hits was enough to make me stop and look for damage.

Well, then it's possible there might be some slight bending on one of the arms. A simple alignment may not be enough to correct the issue.

They *should* be able to tell if something is bent or just out of alignment. But then again.. you never know these days.
