Came across a scenario this morning with a guy wanted to buy the Maroon Marauder. Obviously I thought to myself, "NO WAY". But then I tried to figure out, how much would he have to offer me before I'd sell?
It's in interesting question to ask yourself when you really are in love with your car -- What it would take for you to part with it?
My coworker was playing devil's advocate and asked what if someone, who had money available (and alot of it), came up to me at a car show, emailed me, or heard about my car in some fashion, and said he'd give me $30k cash for it, would I take it? After some quick thought, I wouldn't. I likely do it for 40k though. 35k? I doubt it.
I try to reason everything out. Cost of the car when I bought it in 98 - $13.5k. Total cost of mods, painting, detailing, and upgrades and everthing since then (including latest round of crazy mofo purchases) - roughly $19k. So that's roughly $32.5k I have into the car now. Even if I sold it for $35k (again we're talking hypethetically), in order to get another 3/S in the same shape, condition, style, performance, etc. I'd end up spending the whole $35k I think that I would have sold mine for. So in the end, it'd be a break-even venture. Therefore, what's the point of selling it in the first place at that price?
Now granted, the number of people that would be willing to shell out $30k-40k for a 1G 3/S is virtually NILL, lol, but it's an interesting question to ask yourself.

I'd probably need in excess of 30K. That, of course, isn't going to happen here in the world of reality, so I plan on keeping my car forever.
An interesting question, though.

I'd sell mine for $12,000.
The asking price was $28,000 at the dealer when I bought it used, but I talked them down to $16,000 using their autobytel add. Between maintenance and warrenty fees I've put ~ $42,000 in in the car. That doesn't make the car worth that though. The value for the car might be $6,000-$8,000 and dropping.
My situation doesn't involve adding parts so I can't say any money I've added increases value. Cars aren't investments so rarely do they increase in value.
My question is if not a 3/S what else can you buy. I almost bought a 98 3000GT VR-4 to replace my 1992 in the year 1998. I didn't like the changes that the car had since 1992. I'm not aware of any car that meets the same needs that the 3000GT does for me.

I'd probably give mine up for $20K. I'd like to buy my parents house now that it's for sale.

Great question!! I know this seems outrageous, $100,000. Let me explain. I bought this car because when my Dad was young he had a '57 Chevy and he always told me he should have never sold that car. I agree at some point I would have loved to inheret it. Being that this is the one sportscar that I was able to have when I was young it is very important to me that my kids get it as a collectors and they have something cool to take their dates to prom in. These are the muscle cars of our era, every time one gets killed I wince. There are only so many made, it is a real shame. Sentimental value priceless, anyone else out there ever have anyone they know sell a car they wish they wouldn't have? What was it?

My first car was a 67 Willy's jeep that was more rust and bug-gut than any single color. The leaf springs were busted on the right side so it leaned slightly to the right. It ran on two of the four cylinders. It had the ugliest leather top that must have come from a different model jeep. No radio, not even a hole for one in the dash. "Armstrong" power steering and brakes. Top speed of 30 mph. It left me on the side of the road three times in one week. My father and I restored it after I got a "real" car. It is now fire engine red with 33" tires. We kept the original engine, but got it running on all 4 cylinders. A massive 90 hp and 130 ft-lbs of torque. It now goes 55 mph on a good day. It no longer has a top or doors, because it is only driven on the most beautiful of summer days(slowly with the windshield down while my dad and I smoke cigars with our hats on backwards thinking that we are the kings of the world). It looks like a really big toy jeep. I have now driven a jaguar, a red sports car, and a large truck and the jeep hands down turns more heads, gets more compliments, and more women. There is no amount of money that would cover what has gone into that jeep and no selling price would get me to consider leaving it. If a man walked up to me with the keys to an enzo ferrari and ask for a straight up trade he would walk away wanting. The stealth, the jag, and the probe. They're just one bad day away from the side of the road.
