Hey guys, I just replaced my blown head gasket as most of you know. Well it finally got completely finished last night and she ran like new again. But... Today I was driving on the interstate doing about 65-70 and the temp started to rise. It has weird symptoms and I can't seem to figure out why its doing this. It heats up a little at idle. It runs at normals temps when cruising at say 2k rpms. It steadily heats up the higher rpms I cruise on the hwy, but doesnt get all the way hot. Atleast it seemed to stay steady about 3 lines from the red at 70mph. Any ideas???

Take it to a radiator shop and have them power flush the radiator and block.
If your near a 60k service you might want to change the water pump early. Make sure to use a good coolant rich in phosphates to protect the water pump.

Yeah... The water pump has about 45k miles on it. Doesnt a water pump usually pump more the higher the RPMs? So you think it could just be a blocked passage in the system? Thats good news if it is.

Blockage in the radiator happens alot with older cars power back flushes can fix the problem most times.
I had my water pump fail 13k miles (14 months) after a 60k service it started leaking from the weep hole. Goben Mitsubishi installed it go figure.

Try kicking on the A/C the extra fan might help cool you down or the extra load might heat you up.

Actually the old guy at Renner and the guys at Kuetner are pretty good, but other than that... *blows up Mitsu dealers everywhere*,but not before stealing all the EVO VIII's....

well i replaced the thermostat again and that didnt fix it so i just went and had a power cooling system backflush dane. seemed to do the trick so far. I'll take it on the hwy and cruise at speed for about 20 minutes and see if its all fixed. i know its much cooler at idle now.
And yes Ty, I know I need a new radiator. I also need $$$...LOL.

How does it look bad? Corrosion? Bent too hell? I think you narrowed down the problem.

well I put a new thermostat in this afternoon. didnt solve the problem. so i went and had a power coolant backflush done. seemed to help, but it still gets hotter than it should when on the hwy. Now it sits when I go 80 in the place it used to sit when i went 60-65. so its an improvement, i guess. My radiator has many bent fins from debri and whatnot, plus its pretty corroded from salt in the winter. The only things left to do are replace the water pump and/or the radiator. BTW, still not losing any coolent.
