I was passing a Ford Explorer on the I-94 west of the Zoo and I needed to get over before the road construction. I was doing 80 MPH and I floored it until I felt a vibration and I saw pieces of tire flying out the back.
The car only dropped an inch. It didn't seem to be very loose or hard to control.
The passenger rear tire tread separated at the sidewall. The sidewalls stayed on the rim and the tread floated back and forth in the wheel well staying mostly in the rim area.
When I pulled over I realized I was missing the handle for the jack so I drove the car up to the 894 Greenfield Exit and stopped on a side street. From there I walked home for my shop jack.
If only I had been watching my tires closer this wouldn't have happened. An employee for the facility that I'm working at noticed that tire was low two days ago and helped me fill it. I guess the damage was done,
What is the rule check the pressure once a week? I need to fix my air compressor.
Vetting does Goodyear carry the BF Goodridge G-Force T/A KDWS. It hink I need to replace both my rear tires because the other rear has a patch in the tread.

Funny that you were passing an 'exploder' when you had the blowout...LOL.
Glad nothing else happened. I've seen some pretty nasty stuff cause from hwy blowouts.

No damage to the car, rim, or person. Angels are watching over me.
I had just dropped off my son at my parents house and I was trying to get downtown fast beacuase I was very late to work. They had signs for two left lanes closed at the Zoo Interchange. The guy in the Explorer was just barely doing 65 so I had to get in front of him.

Wow, great you and you car weren't hurt! The most common reason for tire failure is underinflation which leads to excess heat. good luck! explorer,

I can get you one through tire rack with some dealer pricing. Just let me know if you need one. Will take them a few days to ship it - if I order it on Monday it should be in by Thursday. Also, how much tread to you have on the other tires? You know AWD and different tread depths is a no-no. Just give me a call 414-759-4400 Later, Mike
