Just a couple of Q's on upgrade stuff:

any prefrenses on:

turbo timer?
boost controller?
blow off valve?(G-Ell let me know how yours is coming)
down pipe?
guages?(i was gonna go with some autometer ones i found to replace the stock dash ones)

anything else you guys can think of that are just nice mods, or bolt on mods. Thanks.

My first thought.

Keep the car stock for at least a little while. IMHO it'd be better to familiarize yourself with the car for maybe 2-3 months before changing anything around. Make sure everything is running AS IT SHOULD before dumping money into mods. Save that mod money for possible repairs you may need once you find out that "x" doesn't work on the car or "y" is going bad.

Once you're sure the car is tip top, most people tend to like the HKS turbo timers. I know I do. I have one in the track car that I'd sell ya for peanuts, just cause I don't want it in there anymore.

Get an intake first if your car doesn't have one. It makes a good amount of difference. I know my car picked up some power with an intake according to my test runs on my turbo timer.

Consider lowering springs too, yeah, it doesnt make your car any faster, but damn, our cars sure look better with springs installed. And they're cheap enough.

A cheap mod if you want it is a test pipe. $40 for a 5-10hp gain. Not too bad dollars vs hp. Gutting the precats is free too.

I dunno squat about 2G BOVs so I can't help ya there. I like my TurboXS RFL though (I know that works with the 2G cars too since Steve Coppola has one on his 97 vr4). I'm going to give Greg's a try this weekend after the cruise.

Before you do ANY mod, find out what exactly are the effects (positive & negative) that mod will have on your car. Spend some time researching as much as you can. Whenever someone suggests something, ask them "why?".

For example, the RFL bov. If you go to 3si and read one of the dozens of threads of open vs closed loop BOV's you'll read about an issue where the car runs rich between shifting gears. It's late and I'm too tired to get into detail about it, but my point is don't do anything to your car per someones recommondation because the effects may not be what you desire. (this is not meant to slam the RFL in any way)

It's up to you to decide weather the negative effects are worth it. Like a test pipe will help the turbos spool better, but it's against the law, makes the car louder, and polute a little more.

Quick little schpeal about a turbo timer. Is it worth the $$? Do you not have time to sit in your car for minute after driving to let the oil cool down? Do you need one of those fancy $150 ones that show a fakey a/f reading and battery voltage?

Make sure your father's okay with anything you're going to do with the car too.

My quick two cents, I just replaced the dash gauges with Greddy ones, after about a year and a half of owning the car, and The stock boost gauge in my car was not off nearly as bad as everyone claims they are, unless my greddy gauge also sucks hind tit... The water temp gauge is nice because it has numbers instead of just a "H" and a "L", but again, not a huge difference. I also have the oil pressure gauge which is the biggest change from stock, as it is way more responsive than the old stock unit, but again, the car has over 100,000 miles on it. It would have probably run another hundred thousand with the stock gauges barring me doing anything stupid with it.

Also it was a painstaking process to pull those bastard gauges out, with other little projects and sidetracks constantly popping up, if you want it to look nice.

I have a greddy type S BOV, and I am not sure how I like it yet... It may have to go.

I have also recently changed the airfilter for an intake. Start with that. Way easy, not pricey, and Way easy.

So I would run with the car for a while and get to know it. Treat it like a girlfriend. Get to know her, make her feel special, show her a good time, and then ask about playing with the back door...
