Ok, so out of the blue my cruise control, which has worked flawlessly forever, has been acting up.
Now it surges back and forth, up and down.
I pulled the cover and found a cable connection dislodged (the bottom one up front).
Seemed logical I guess, simply slide back into place, grabbed some Loctite, and tightened it back up.
Didn't do it.
Traced the vacuum line to the diaphragm, but alas, can't really see where it accepts it real well (would have to pull a bunch a stuff out to get to it).
So, what do the cables do? Should they be taut like the accelerator cable?
How does the vacuum line attach to the diaphragm?

I don't know, but mine does the same thing. Let me know if you find out what the fix is.

The vac actuator wears out after while. It sits below the cluster of vac lines and sollinoids between the throttlebody and the battery on the firewall.
It's also common the vac line dries up/melts and leaks start to form. Simply replacing the hose will solve that. Make sure it has the correct inner diameter which I'm afraid I don't remember anymore w/o looking it up.
Another thing to check is the cable assembly itself (jumble of throttle cables on the driverside of the engine bay above the fuse/relay box for the AC). Make sure no rust has built up in there causing unneeded tension. I can see stretched/loose cables causing an issue too.
Finally, if all those check out, then the motor assembly is bad (black box under the cable assembly) and needs to be replaced.

How doeth the hose fit? Nipple inside? Don't see one sticking out, unless it's broken off and that's the issue.

Both seem equally "loose" in the off positon.

The cables can be tightened by adjusting the mounting nuts that hold the cables to the box.

Before I just started changing things, I compared it all to the kids.
The tension for both the cables are almost exactly the same and his works perfectly.
So, I guess I'm pointing the finger at and am going to dig for the vacuum actuator.
I report my findings.

So, nothing has solved the puzzle.
I changed the long vacuum line from the unit to the actuator.
I changed the small elbow vacuum line at the bottom.
I tighten the cables as far as the could go.
Any ideas?
