One more reason Illinois sucks, and we should declare war on them. Illinois will begin using photo radar in freeway work zones in July. One mile per hour over the speed limit and the machine will get you a nice $375.00 ticket in the mail. Beginning July 1st, the State of Illinois will begin using the speed cameras in areas designated as "Work Zones" on major freeways. Anyone caught by these devices will be mailed a $375.00 ticket for the FIRST offense. The SECOND offense will cost $1000.00 and comes with a 90-Day suspension. Drivers will also receive demerit points against their license, which allow insurance companies to raise Insurance rates. This is the harshest penalty structure ever set for a governmental unit involving PHOTO speed enforcement. The State already has two camera vans on line issuing tickets 24/7 in work zones with speed limits lowered to 45 MPH. Photos of both the Driver's face and License plate are taken. Pass this on!!! For more info: ( http://www.dot.state.il.us/press/r033005.html<http://www.dot.state.il.us/press/r033005.html> )

I've never gone more than 5 over the reduced work zone limit, and even slower when there are actual workers around. Now you go 1mph over because you sneeze and your pedal jerks and you're stuck with a 375.00 ticket? This is for revenue, not for safety.

Yes, and there talking of using the transponder in your I-pass to monitor your speed. They can setup portable loops for the transponder anywhere and they would be hard to notice. Letting someone borrow your I-pass could net you some healthy tickets let alone your own driving. FLIB's - F***ing Liberal Illinois Bastards

they need to set up a toll booth at the end of the construction zone and charge $375. Then they wouldn't have to invest the money in the cameras and radar equipment...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1RZEQ_mSpmQI drive through Chicago once a week and always get passed by people going at least 55-60 mph in a work zone. I take the slow sight-seeing route down 41 now until it merges with I94. I wonder how all this new revenue is being used.

I went down to alsip a few weeks ago, and through the entire construction zone, if I would have done the speed limit, I would have gotten rear ended, shot, and probably raped. Well, I guess two of those things are kinda the same...
Anywho, my point is, even chilling out in the right lane while moving with the flow of traffic because I didn't know the area I was around 5 over the speed limit, and the locals were flying by me like I was tied to a rock.
Are they going to give all of those people tickets?
I wonder if this is to pay for the 300 dollar stimulus checks? I told you those were a bad idea.
Although, I guess there is one good thing about it. The last time I was pulled over in Illinois, the cop wanted cash, right then and there. So at least this takes crooked cops out of the equation...
right? think positive?
EDIT: Do you ever wonder how many more burglers, rapists, and vandals would get caught if the traffic cops actually had to go out and get a real police job?
Is giving someone a ticket for going somewhere between 1 and ten miles an hour over a speed limit really that important for safety in our society? Especially considering the fact that those very speed limits were made how long ago, and the technology that goes into cars and roads has evolved since then.
And even better is everyone just seems to accept it, shrug there shoulders, and move on.

Well if they need a picture of your face then this is how you avoid that. On a more serious note that is nuts. I spent two years living in that state and yes you get passed like nothing when you're doing the speed limit. My old neighbor was a sherif's deputy and he told me that on 355 between 290 and 90 that the average speeding ticket was 88 in I think a 65. There were plenty of times where I was doing 85 and get passed like I was standing still.

On a complete off topic post..
Why does everybody around Appleton (esp. on HWY 41 & 10) go 5-10mph under the speed limit? I'm working in appletown right now and it's been ridiculous. In my car and/or cruising in the company truck I continuously run into "Sunday cruisers."
BTW: FIB!!
Oh yea, I saw the one lunged beast on 41 on Tues IIRC.

And even better is everyone just seems to accept it, shrug there shoulders, and move on. That and studies show that there is no significant decrease of highway worker fatalities or increases in overall safety in photo radar zones.

I will be buying some spray for my tags.
but yeah last time I went to Chicago (almost a month ago) and had to go thru construction zone for quite some time. I tried to go with everybody, 65-70 mph. try to go 45 and you might get killed by a semi or something.

Those plastic blackouts do seem to work, however they are illegal and almost everyone I know that has boughten them has been ticketed for them.
