Be nice Johnny H. Yes, we have some knowledgeable members that will be happy to answer your questions, try to steer you in the right direction, and have experience. SJ

All I can say is be prepared to pony up some serious cash unless you want headaches down the road.

I'm joking Jason, Johnny's nice -- well, in a mental kind of way. I'm ribbing him, not you. And no lashings to new guys! Many folks do want to do this conversion -- you are not alone. However, there are many pro's and con's to everything. He has accomplished it already, so I'll let him chime in when he checks the board. Just so you know, we're a friendly, boisterous group, and we enjoy ribbing each other constantly. Just read some of the other posts. Don't take anything personally here. SJ

Yeap, I have done it, and if you can find stock TT parts from people, it isn't super expensive. If you upgrade stuff (like I did during my last rebuild) it will get much more expensive.
I am in Waukesha, you are more then welcome to come here and take a look at anything you want on the car. I would normally just meet you someplace, but the car is not in a running state at the moment (thank you Mitsubishi for a defective block) so it isn't going anywhere for a bit.
I assume you already have a list of the basic parts you need off of a TT car?

yeah i do have a list of everything that is needed and I am going to be in the process of getting parts soon. I plan on hitting the local junkyard soon to find basic parts. As well is that i plan on getting a rebuilt engine from jasper and then everything that is a must have unless i can get used will low miles will be brand new. I wont cut corners on this because of all the spun bearings and what not and most of it will be done with professional help as much as they will do.

I would also recommand doing the 120K service on the block you are looking at as part of the process, it is all the 60K service parts plus an oil pump.
Are you going to be using a TT block, or an N/A block?

I'd highly recommend going with a turbo block, or at least TT pistons if your having an engine rebuilt. You can then use the stock TT ECU and not worry about playing around with an SAFC etc.

Like I said, forget the junkyard. I have an entire 92 VR-4 (minus transmission and ECU and driver side SMIC) waiting for you to rape its engine Turbos, etc, whatever you need; I'm only 15-20 miles away. Not to mention I haven't actually seen a TT in a junkyard for about 4 years now. NA's, yeah. I've only heard of that Jasper shit until that post on 3SI. Have you considered getting a Pampena rebuild? I'd be more apt to trust his personal machinists and his attention to detail to be honest.

Why is everyone so ready to bust out of the state to do a rebuild on an engine? It's not freak'n rocket science, and at least then if something does go wrong, you can go and get your engine back without crossing state lines. honestly, there are many good shops here. 3si is not the end all be all that everyone thinks it is. Jesus is not a member there. God has not blessed that site over any other. Oh, and as far as the conversion to twins, just remember this one protip. don't pass out the fire water until AFTER the swap is complete.

And make sure the guy that is giving you to TT parts has all of them with him (BOTH manifolds) so you dont have to kick his drunken ass off of your couch the next morning, drive to Green Bay and back while he is near death and ready to vomit at any second in your passenger seat.

So i have a feeling ttangel has a grudge about getting rebuilt engines lol. My goal is to have a engine regardless if it is a tt block or n/a block i just want it so i can drop the engine in with very mild modifaction I am weighing out my options i might even just rebuild it myself or have someone help me but we will have to see. I am open to all suggestions. One main question I have heard is problems with traction. What issues have some people have had

Traction, yeah, you are going to have fun with that in the low gears. Jumping on the throttle from a stop is kind of dumb, makes a great smoke show, but you aren't going anywhere real fast. From a roll, on the other hand, well, that is just plan fun! Are you planning on getting a LSD in the FWD transmission? Converting to a TT 18 spline transmission? I will be rebuilding my engines this winter (I have a TT and a N/A block), and I should be done building my shop in the next 6 weeks or so, so if you need something, I am sure I will have some extra room for another block.

Well I plain on putting in a lsd and i might upgrade the tranny I am thinking about it. the one I have leaks around the seal so i might as well. I just love this forum everyone is within driving distant for me and so willing to help. I will keep peopel posted still trying to get medical bills paid off and the car goes to storage the first week in october. I am hoping to start buying the parts starting next month a little at a time. Like i said mostly everything will be new. One question as well if I get a tt block does that mean that it will have the 8:1 compression comparted to our 10:1?
