A friend of mine is having some car problems with his 97 vr-4. When he started it, it made a loud noise like an old rusty door opening, then ran rough and making a noise. He drove it home and didn't have any power when pressing the gas. Any ideas?

Is the noise constant, or does it change with RPM? Different when car is warm / cold?
Simple checks are to take off intake piping on turbo and make sure they are not seized. Check the oil for discoloration and / or chunks of metal.
If nothing happens when steppin on gas, and it makes noise, you need to consider broken internals.
