I just put a tt motor in a n/a. My problem is, now that its all done and running, I have a really bad case of lifter tick. The tt motor has been sitting for at least a year I am not sure how long it was sitting before the guy I am putting it in for had bought it. I am looking for options I can do to lose or quit the ticking. I do not want to remove them I have never done a tbelt on a 3si in the car. I really dont want to. Is there a specifect oil I should be running? The owner got me some 15w30 and that is what is in it now. If I go with a 40 wieght, will it quet down? Thank you for your time.

$120 for 99 style lifers in the Group buy section of 3SI. An afternoon to install and your tick will be gone. Some say you can remove the original lifters, clean them and reinstall. But if your going to be doing all that work why not spend the $120 and put in new ones. I made a lifter install tool so it's a one person job. It can be done in a couple of hours if your prepared. Don't forget you will also need Valve cover gaskets and make sure the gasket kit comes with the gaskets around the spark plugs. Most do but the factory kits they come separate.
Just my 2 cents.

after you drop a new engine in there will be air in the lifters.
It will tick like a son of a b*tch for quite a while until the oil gets all the air out.
If the engine sat for a long time, I'm willing to be the lifter tick will get better if you let it run for a while.
unless it is still present at higher RPMs. then that's bad, and you need to look into something being done.
my car ticks like no ones business after not running for a while.

Bunk, do you have to remove the cams with your tool? I would love to put the new lifters in for him but he is short on money and I really dont want to do the timming. How long will I need to leave the car running for the lifter tick to disapate? I had it running for 10-15 mins and it did seem to quite down a little but it is still pretty bad.

Mine will tick for a good 15 minutes after sitting for a winter. easily.
I don't believe mine stopped until a short drive back from the storage garage.
I didn't beat on it, but a bit of driving with load on the engine in mid RPM range always seems to quiet her down a bit.
I'd try that if everything is working on the car enough for a bit of a trip.

+1 on driving it around the block. On my rebuild after startup I had lifter tick aswell, drove it around for a bit and it's completely gone.

All right, Thanks alot guys. I havent drove it yet I still need to put the axles in. I was just in a hurry to hear her run. I will put the axles in and take it for a spin and see if it goes away.

Tisk tisk...
Someone didn't prime the lifters in their new engine.

I would recommend priming your liver. A case of beer always seems to help my lifter tick disappear.
