Well I picked up a new throttle body gasket and installed it yesterday. I still have the same leak on the front of the TB between the top and bottom bolt. I took my time to look at the old gasket to make sure it goes on correct. It was the paper type of gasket and not the metal one. Looking at the old gasket I can see where the leak should be coming from. Looks to be on the throttle body side of the gasket on the front. So what is a cure for this? Do you guys use RTV on any part of the gasket? Thanks for your help.

Well not paper, fiber? just not sure what material you call it. The same material gaskets have been made out of for years and years. Here is a link to the 3SX site and the gasket I have. Its the gasket in the lower right hand corner. From what I have found you can use either the metal gasket or the other one. http://www.3sx.com/store/comersus_viewI ... duct=24098I might need to look again and see if the leak is actually coming from the TB or from the O-rings on the throttle shaft behind the TPS. I just felt it with my hand so I assumed it was the gasket. I guess I will have to spray a mist of water in that area to see just where the exact leak is. If the leak is on the O-rings on the throttle shaft have any of you replaced these and if so how long does it take? Thanks Bunk

Hey Bunk: FWIW, it seemed to me that there were folks putting these in backwards a while back. I believe the small tab on the top goes at the rear by the firewall -- just checking, but are you sure you didn't put it in backwards? I don't have the car to look at, so if that's wrong, someone please chime in. Thanks, SJ

I used RTV on mine every time. I have always used the oem metal gasket though as well. I still do get some air leaking out the adjustment screw, but the seal to the intake man. is good.

Tab towards the rear....interesting. My metal gasket came off with the tab on towards the front of the car.... So if it was on backwards then my new one is on backwards. Frickin stealerships!!! Before I got this car all the work was pretty much done at a dealership. So add another post for mechanic at dealership that works on these cars and doesn't know what he's doing. Well now I know where to start.

Bunk Tab towards the rear. Yes, it is unfortunate most of our local dealerships work in such a manner -- get you in and out as fast as possible and on to the next. It's a nasty, dirty business, and if they get you out before the book says it should take them, they all earn more money. We're lucky we have each other to chime in, and folks like Jeff and Greg who actually work on these cars. I actually just write about working on them on the internet. Best, SJ
