So how long should it take to install new 99 lifters. I know Greg told me to just remove and clean the lifters and reinstall. But why clean a lifter with 120K on it I might as well just drop in a new 99 style lifter and be done with it. So what other parts do I need besides a new upper plenum gasket, lifters and valve cover gaskets. I know I should also install VSS at the same time but I

It's 100x easier to wait to do the lifters when you do the VSS. It's possible to change them without pulling the cams, but I don't have good luck with it and you risk scratching the rockers and cams.
Why clean a 120K old lifter? Because it's not like they "wear out" or anything like that and getting new ones are pricey. Just seems silly to me that guys spend $150+ on something silly like lifter tick...
Note: You may have lifter tick because you have low oil pressure too. 99 lifters will still tick if this is the case.

Well the plan for next year after the car comes out of storage is oil pump, VSS and cam seals depending on how the money is at that point in time. As far as the lifter tick I'm just one of those people that doesn't like hearing a clicking engine. I think for piece of mind I would rather have new lifters put in instead of cleaning the old ones. The way I look at it is if you take the time to do alot of work on the car you might was well replace stuff with new to prevent problems that could occur later. I guess I will just have to think about if I want to wait on the lifters until next spring. Even the wife is commenting on that my car is ticking alot. Just my 2 cents. As far as oil pressure it seems to be reading the same as it always has been. It doesn't seem to be running low.
And Greg THANKS again for all your work on installing the timing belt, tensioner, belts etc....!!!!! I like the picture of you on the trike!

P.S. One quick one. I have finally found a bit of time to do some logging. I'm picking up alot of knock on acceleration. This is simple kick it down a bit acceleration, not WOT. The count is anywhere between 20-40 at times. Can noisey lifters show up as false knock?

grab some race gas, dump it in and take a ride. if the knock is still there, it's false knock.

Lifter tick wouldn't cause it, could be driveshaft carrier bearings. Log the voltage for the 02's and check for knock again.

If you're seeing 20 counts of knock, let off the throttle!
