I received a PM a week or two ago from someone about the driveability of the AEM EMS, but I deleted the email, planning to respond when I had a chance later that night. It slipped my mind, I forgot, and now I forgot who sent me the PM. I think it was either Nick (from muskego?) or one of the newer members I don't know? Regardless, my apologies for the the lack of response. I hope you get this msg...
My thoughts on the AEM EMS are all positive so far. I think your main question was daily driveability? To date, I've only had to make changes to the various maps/settings recently after the new cams/motor went in and when I replaced my IAC motor over the weekend. Aside from that, it really has been "set and forget". The learning curve isn't bad really. If you understand how an engine works and how timing events and fuel events happen and the reasons as to why, it's pretty user friendly. I'm not sure I would have the same opinion if I hadn't had someone set my tune from the start, requiring only minor adjustments on my end original to cater it more towards my needs/wants. I would recommend having someone set you up with a base tune which would likely save you tons of headaches in the beginning for your learning curve.
Few are aware, but we have a person here in Waukesha county who was one of the first two people in the world to setup an AEM EMS successfully on a 3S. He has a strong knowledge of the AEM and was instrumental in working alongside AEM in the beginning of the 3S version release to get it more in sync with what we needed from AEM tech to get the EMS to perform better with our cars. It's possible, though I won't speak for him, he may be willing to help you setup the AEM on your car for $$ on the side.
So, in short, no regrets going AEM. Love it actually. Definitely recommend it for someone who is looking for the full range of tuning abilities and is a tinkerer at heart.
Regards, JR
