Ok, so just so everyone is on the same page...
We found a hole in the intercooler piping where matt welded the BOV flange on.
We fixed that this morning.
Pressure tested, and found no other major leaks, except the back of the turbo compressor housing. Not sure if it's suppose to leak there, but we figured it's still not compressed air there, and it's a pretty small leak, so we'll run with it.
MAS is taped onto the front of the intake pipe for now, with the only air filter I could find that would fit it, a small square one from a briggs and straton motor.
We cannot get the car to idle or low rpm, low mph cruise correctly. It is stupid lean. .04 volts on both O2 sensors. we tried everything up to 50% (max) adding fuel on the e-manage, nothing gets it to cycle 02s, which is something my car never had a problem with before.
on the highway, or any cruising over 35 mph the 02s cycle beautifully, and the car is pretty well behaved. We can boost up to about 1 bar(for now), and the 02s are .96 right on the money. a bit rich, but good enough. Open loop works great.
I took it to pulaski and back to pick up belle, and it never skipped a beat, minus the times I had to slow down at a stop sign, or what not. I never died, just never ran right.
On the way back, I had a minor idea. perhaps the airfilter was messing with the air flow at idle and low speeds, seeing as the flow might not be able to develop behind the honey combs because the filter is pressed up against it.
on the highway, enough airflow is forcing it's way past the filter, and it runs better.
So, when I got home with belle, I popped off the briggs airfilter, and started the car up.
Low and behold, the car now cycles 02s sitting in the garage... not awesome, better when I throw the A/C on, and the idle bumps up. it's set really low now, and I hate that. I want it to idle at 1000 rpm. not the 600 it's currently at without A/C on... anywho, I digress.
so the 02s are now cycleing at idle. awesome. Lisa comes home from work, and wants a ride, I tell her "yeah, sure. I think I finally got this thing figured out..."
So we pull out of the drive, idles pretty good.
I put it in gear, start down the street, and the 02s are still cycling, but not as well. I get to the next street, and give it a bit more gas, we're up to about 25~30 mph, the 02s no longer want to cycle, and the car is running way rich.
It stall out on me at the next intersection.
I start it back up, everything's cool... back to normal.
Start down the road again, have some room, so I get on it. Go open loop. .99 or 1.00 volts o2... flat line rich. w...t...f...
let off the gas, car stalls. again.
I manage to coax it home, and with a few more stalls and a police man nice enough to follow me, while watching me die out a few more times before he sees belle and lisa, and decides I must not be a street racer...
I get it into the driveway, low speed, and idle, goes back to cycling and idling like a champ.
So... Heres my theory, and tell me if it sounds completely dekcuf pu.
I think that with the airfilter on, and plastered against the MAS, the flow can't develop, and be read right by the MAS at idle and low speed cruise. Nothing can be done to tune that out, because the MAS isn't reading correctly.
With the airfilter off the mas, at idle it can read fine, and as you get up in speed, it starts getting force fed into the honeycombs, and again, the MAS can't read it correctly, especially as you get up in speed, and it's giving falsely high readings, which is causing it to just throw in fuel with abandon.
So...
If I keep the MAS, I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't, there is no way to tune this car and keep both idle, and high to moderate speed/in boost tunes happy. I can't use a different airfilter because the one I found is the only one that fits... the front of the MAS is right at the back of the fog light already...
So, I came home, drained the oil, and now she sits waiting for me to decide, but I think the ONLY way to run this car now is speed density... and I don't have that. I need EMU, MAP ECU, or AEM. And this car will not run right until then. I think you know which one I want.
and then the batteries in the logger died...
Also, got a little high in the temps(105-6* C) and when I got home I heard a HISSSSSSSSSSSSSS which seemed to be coming from the coolant lines right under the throttle body... I left a small puddle on the ground, but couldn't find where exactly the noise was coming from before it stopped.
opinions/objections/concerns/leghumping/smacktalk?
