2004 STI VS VR4 stock vs stock Im asking this because im looking into buying a STI Rally blue Gold BBS wheels wing etc with 31,000 miles for 24K stock with the extended warranty. I looked at the staged mods 5,000 gets you 350-400 AWHP I seen them running 11.9-12.3 times are these things really fast stock and do they blow up easily. I road in one of my buddies but he didnt launch it and i was kind of dissapointed. And when i watched the 11s and low 12s passes they were shifting into 5th gear already whats the top speed I want a 170mph car my 3S went 120 end of 3rd and 146 end of 4th and middle of 5th was 157 were I let off it (girlfriends was freakin out lol) Im leaving for Florida on a couple internship for UW responses please

For $5000, I can build you a low 12 second 3/S.

12 sec vr4:
13T's - $1K 550cc inj - $300 safc 2 - $200 walbro fp - $100 air filter ass. - $100 DP - $200 lines, gaskets, etc - $200
Total = $2100 and it could be done cheaper.

All great feedback keep it coming. I think for around 5,000 it was a GT35R turbo at 18 psi for the STI, bov, intake , pump, injectors, downpipe, catback and the UTEC tuning with the upgrade top mount. The tuning for these cars is plug and play pretuned but more tweaking still needs to be had. This turbo was rated to 600 plus wheels HP. Also im still looking for a 95 VR4 or 99 thats reasonably priced with under 80,000 that is black, yellow, blue, or sandstone grey

You're NOT going to get 600AWHP out of a VR4 for $5K.
E16G's -------------------------------- $950 IPS TD05 Headers ------------------- $1950
The turbos and headers alone are going to run ya $3K to get near that power.
A low 12 sec VR4 and one with 600AWHP are not even in the same ballpark.

cars are much like women.
They should be traded in every three years on a younger, better model.
not sent into the doctor for boob and face lifts, because your still left with a chasis that has been used, abused, rode hard and put away wet.

That reminds me of an old guy that came in our Ford dealership (mid 80's)to trade in his old truck for a new one. When asked what his truck was like he said, it's like my wife, older, high miles, doesn't look the best but the box is in great shape!!!

Adam... How old is your stealth? Well I guess I'm defying that Philosophy in two ways... 1. I'm getting married. 2. I'm spending money on a car that is 14 years old. Personally I'm going for the elusive collector plates Jason

my stealth is 11 years old.
I am nearly finished with the single turbo conversion.
I never said I was an intelligent man, but I can still warn others.
So far I'm still resisting the tampoons in my car's glove box, and a minivan/suv.
but if I could go back in time, I'd give myself the winning lotto ticket numbers for one of the spikes in the megabucks drawings, have a shiny new modded viper which gets upgraded every three years, and have an 18-21 year old girlfriend all the time.
balloons are like virgins. one prick, all gone.

Also, don't you have to go through one final emissions test, no matter where you live, before you can get them, or was I again, misinformed? Thanks, SJ

Almost every member of 3SI is defying the upgrade every X years plan. I am a firm believer in the plan itself, and know all too well that anything with T1T5 or wheels can only cause problems. We are a special breed, seeing the possibilities in a 10 year old platform thats heavy, and has a seriously weak stock setup compared to other cars of its class. (I should talk, I'm the W3SI member most likely to be overheard talking of selling his car to buy a Z06) Marriage and tampoons in the 3S golvebox? Now thats just crazy talk.
