Sounds like a spun bearing Perhaps the bearings were in bad shape before you turned her in for the winter and the lack of oil on them during the startup after sitting did it. You should probably stop running the engine. Jason

no no no
Drive the car around for 20 minutes. It should go away.
You just have air in the lifters.

I agree with Greg. I would drive it around for a while and let things circulate under normal temps. Keep the rpms low until it goes away incase it is dry up top.

Running and idling are two different things. The oil doesnt flow much at 800rpms. If its rod knock, you tear things apart and fix it. But I would say have Jeff listen to it like Greg said. I would do it, but I don't want to give to false info or just take guesses at the sound.

Give me a shout if you want...
Also, Greg and Joe both asked - did you drive the car, or is it just sitting at idle. Even a new lifter doesn't always pump the air out at idle.

I just read this again...
What changes did you make? You mention backfiring, etc. Sounds like we need to know everything that might have changed since last fall, in order to help you diagnose. Even if you think it's not important, list everything you did.

If you get under the car it get louder... jason166 I think was right. I may start it up one more time to get a video other than that she is on hold for a long while So I will see most of you at the UMG in a 200SX

I wouldn't say it is rod knock yet. Both Uncle Benny's car and mine sounded nasty when they were started after sitting. I took aleast 20 min of driving before it got better.
