I was dozing on the couch the other late night with some program I think called Sports Car Revolution on in the background. I probably missed most of the segment, but I swore I heard him talking about a Nitrous system designed specifically to spool the turbos up quicker at low power before they can get there themselves. Apparently, the system only comes on in the low RPM range. This was on a Nissan 300Z.
Anybody heard of this? Fry? Bueller? Blank-d-o-o economics? Linus? Kelly McGillis searching farm boy?
Best,
SJ

Yeh, that's what nitrous does.
In this setup, it only sprays from say 2500rpms to 4500rpms for example just until the turbo reaches full boost, then it shuts off.

So is it a special kit or just different mapping of a dry system?
I've never heard it used this way before.

It could be used on a dry system. When you use a "spool shot" you would jet it low <75hp. You would need some type of control trigger the relays. You could probably use a WOT switch and a pressure switch that opens when the set pressure is reached. I was working on a nitrous controller for a guy but had to give it up because of interference with school.

Matt: So are you saying you've already done the leg work for this? I have to think the guys with the big turbos (sorry Linus, TURBO) would be real interested in something like this. Me too, right after I hit the lotto... Best, SJ

There are systems out that you can buy for this. grab a window switch with a prgressive controller. It gives you an rpm window, with a % on by RPM. scale up or down. Or get AEM, and inject fuel into the un-used cylinders, and it will spool the turbo also..

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Like he said that are systems out there that can be made to do this. You could also the extra injector output on an E-manage which I believe can be linked to a MAP sensor. I hope it can because I was going to use it to control my alchy. I may look into it again this summer, but I have an alchy controller I'm working on for my friend's SVO Mustang.
