Those are just flex sections in your downpipe to relieve some of the stress of all those rigid exhaust components. It allows your exhaust to flex a little so things don't start cracking and breaking. If you don't ask, you don't learn.

so i just install the testpipe and im good to go i get 7-8 ponies.
The testpipe goes where the cat is right? cuz i looked under my car and it was the only thing that i saw that had flanges on it. so i sprayed them down with wd40

You can try re-using the stock gaskets, however they may be pretty crapped-up (so to speak). You'd really have to see when you pull out your cat whether the stock gaskets are re-usable. Personally, I'd just order the gaskets and install new ones. They only cost a few bucks. Your local mitsu dealer should carry them, probably about $6 apiece or so.
The reason you don't want to re-use old gaskets if they're crappy is they will cause you to have exhaust leaks.

I'd recommend just going and getting new Mitsu gaskets from the dealer. You'll have problems reusing the old ones unless you get everything lined up exactly the same as you did with the cat. With my test pipe, I got through gaskets about every 3 months if I buy the cheap ones from a parts store. The mitsu ones last me much longer.

Dealer? pft.
Take the old gasket to your local parts store (Checker, Napa...) and set them on the counter and ask for 2 new ones. Maybe cost you $5 total...
