I am a rather upset after today's experience at the track. It was the first time in the 2 1/2 years I've owned my car that I have taken it to the track; and it was on the first run on my first time that my clutch went out. I was able to run a pathetic 13.9 @ 102 while launching from idle. I got a 2.4 60' with my idle launch. I am BPU. I am about to be BPU with a new freaking RPS flywheel and DXD clutch. I had better get into the 12's or damn near..... Sincerely pissed, Eric

Eric, 13.9 with a bad clutch isn't too bad. Was it slipping? What happened? A 2.4 0-60' will give you that, especially launching at idle. I'm actually surprised you cut a 13.x with that kind of launch. If it's any consolation, getting that 0-60' down to 1.8 or so should easily net you a very low 13 second time (13.0-13.2). Getting into 12's with BPU on these cars is harder than most people think. It takes a great launch. People that break 12's consistently with just BPU is NOT the norm, it's the exception. Add another mod or two to BPU (Intake, Exhaust, Boost Controller), and 12's become alot more common and consistent. I'd suggest a CFDS Fill me in on the clutch debacle.

Hey Eric. Glad to see the clutch held up on the way home.
Wish I could have driven mine home....HAHAHA!
Teaction was a lil better than I thought and instead of masive wheel spin, I got masive wheel hop on one of my runs and cracked the Diff again. Therefore once again, I have a hole in my tranny and no car. Sucks cause it was gonna be the best run of the day. Got a 2.3 60' and a 9.7 1/8 mile before a hard shift to 3rd and a snapped diff. Oh well. Dems da breaks.

The N/A Fury ran a 2.3 60', 9.7 1/8 mile, and a blown tranny for a 15.3 @ 88mph. Once the Diff broke, It got stuck in 2nd and wouldnt go into third. The clutch stuck to the floor for a second and everything. So My time was lost. I think I coasted for a couple hundred feet before I was able to go into third. Oh well. I'll just save up and buy a fully built tranny this time. With upgraded internals and a LSD.

Nope not at all. But I'm used to it....LOL. It was fun hangin out with Eric on his first track day. I know I needed to get a tranny this winter anyways. This just makes my winter start sooner.

13.9 isn't that bad w/ a bad clutch. The best I got when mine first started slipping was 13.7 w/ 2.2 60's.
Joe that sucks, was that your only run.

No, it wasnt my only run, but the first couple i was playing around with the launch because i seemed to get a totally different grip at the track than the street with these tires.

Well, $875 later, and a day of work in the near future, and I should be moving again. The SBC DXD and UR flywheel shipped yesterday. I am looking at getting a PST in the next few days to do it all at the same time. Luckily, I fixed the oil leak on our neon!!! So I have 3 other operational vechicles in the family while mine is toast. I am thinking that with what I have done already, the clutch flywheel and driveshaft, and the light weight pulley I'm putting in during my tune up this winter that I should hit my 12 second goal next spring. Eric This clutch wasn't slipping, it was a slip and slide. I launched and was amazed at how fast it sounded like I was going....It slipped through all of first and 1/2 of second. Then on the third run I realized I had no clutch (pushing gas from roll in 6th gear on highway it slipped) I launched from idle and did not power shift, netting me the 13.9 @102.1 w/ a monstrous 2.4 60'.

I ordered the clutch and flywheel monday @ 2:00 ish pm and the dang thing got here on tuesday morning @ 11:00 am! That was fast. I promised Jason that I would help him gut his precats this weekend, but if there is enough time I would like to try and get the clutch and flywheel in. Both the dxd clutch and the unorthodox racing flywheel look like quality products; of course I know nothing about clutches so I might be high... Is it possible to do this on mere jack stands? If I need a lift this could seriously hinder my ability to drive soon. Joe, if you want to help you are more than welcome; being my first time I may indeed need it. Eric

Lift? You talking about a cherry picker? Depends if you plan to remove the tranny out the top, or underneith the car. I know there's a v-faq on dropping it from under the car, but the search feature isn't working on 3Si at the moment.

Jeff's site has a how to on the subject that I have printed and I have the manual. I just need a second person I am thinking to do it without breaking anything. I weighed the south bend clutch parts and heres how it came out: stock sbc flywheel 21.5 lbs 11 lbs (unorthodox racing) clutch housing 15 lbs 14 lbs clutch disc 5 lbs 3 lbs I weighed these on a bathroom scale, so I am not sure as to the accuracy. Joe, if you still are interested in helping, it appears that it is a two person job. I have the jack stands, two jacks, and all the required tools. LEt me know if you are still game. Eric

Vetting has some good experience with clutches on these cars and tranny work. Might want to touch base with him.
