Started with draining the oil about an hour ago. Took off cross member, downpipe, transfercase, starter, starter support, trans shield and all of the bolts came loose on the pan. Gotta love a car that gets taken apart all the time. I'll be pulling off the pan after my short afternoon at work. The oil had no chunks in it. It did have a little bit of a cloudy texture when you stir it up, but I hope thats normal. I bought a fresh oil pan to check for flakes. The only thing I could maybe see is some tiny, tiny reflective pieces, but it was more like a cloudy area than it was chunks. When I took off the down pipe I did notice that I had 2 huge exhaust leaks. The gasket and stillen dp were scrorched black on one side. But I dont think an exhaust leak like that would cause that kind of clanking noise unless it was right next to the head. Greg will be goining me at my house at 7:30 tonight to help me look at the bearings and bottom end of the motor. If anyone cares to join just give me a call at 414-759-4400 if you dont know where I live.

Jeff, are you still here?
We pulled the pan last night and the oil has a lot of copper "glitter" in it. There were also a few magnesium & copper chunks on the pickup tube. No doubt the mains were close to the end of thier life. All the silver facing was worn. There are very minimal scoring marks on the crank from the mains. We only checked 1 rod bearing (cyclender closest to the oil pump) which also had a lot of copper showing.
What I don't understand is, one of the mains (2nd one from the oil pump side) sat in the cradle a lot "looser" than the other 3. This one also had a lot more wear on it. Could this mean this one was about to spin, and we just got really lucky and caught it before it did?
Should we pull each rod bearing and inspect it? I'm not seeing where the metal chunks came from...

Thinking about doing the following: New main and rod bearings Polish the crank Oil pick up Oil pump Pan new thrustwashers Check rods Leave the pistons and rings (had compression check about 3 weeks ago and it as 150 on all 6) Clean out the inside of the block
