So with HUGE injectors you couldn't get the car to even idle with more than 25 PSI in the fuel system, and then with the pump disconnected from the power source and 0 psi in the line it idled fine. hmmm.... The vaccum in the engine is sucking the fuel down the line... wouldn't that mean that the injectors would have to be open during the intake stroke of the piston? Is that true... I thought that the injectors were only open for a millisecond or two, at the end of the intake stroke and right before the compression stroke... time to find that chart with injector duty cycle vs. piston position. kinda reminds me of this girl I used to know who could suck a softball through a garden hose. but that's a different story. I know that the dumbed down carb cars need less than 7 psi in the fuel line, but they are set up for vacuum. that's why I'm suprised that an injected car would run like that. What range in PSI is the fuel pressure gauge in you car go to Jesse? If it goes all the way up to say, 100 PSI it's very possible that the line could have 5~10 PSI and the gauge wouldn't show it. If you can't get it to idle at over 25 psi with those monster injectors, maybe it had enough PSI left in the line to let it idle for a while. Just throwing a thought out there. I could be very well talking out my behind.

You must have missed the part where Jesse was saying the 720 were cracked.

could very well be. so it was running poorly on *two cylinders*? that's pretty amazing if it was. jesse, i'm with jeff. Put the injectors back in and grab a video camera. then run it. we want to see.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that your talking about my flagrant disreguard for carb technology in general.
Hey, I'm a big fan of simple. And I realize that carbs have evolved over the years. I still have to listen to my father and all his big block hard on freinds talk about the good ol' days and what not. There are many stories to be shared at the next gathering, but to much to type...
The thing is, the carb is simpler than EFI. proper jet sizes, proper runner lengths, the air sucks the fuel out. It's really not that complicated. I'm not saying that it's any better OR worse, just that a typical carb is dumbed down enough so that any average joe can slap different ones on his car in his garage with normal tools. Try switching injectors, then running without any piggybacks, and tunning with normal hand tools...
Then again, I went to school with computer engineers who didn't know a screwdriver from a busdriver, so they may think the opposite is true...
So, I'm still confused. Do you guys think that it was running on two cylinders? Carb or EFI that's an impressive will to live.

Well, The SAFC-2 is all the way in the VR-Slow now; no idea if it works or not without a functioning battery. It looks pretty cool though.

Car is nearly 100% done now. Hood is one, headlines are back in, fluids are in, idle is tuned (still a bit high though, but o2's cycle nice and clean), engine bay is detailed the way I want (minus a few bolts I need to get polished). Put the car in gear today and moved it about 2 feet forward and 2 feet backwards, woohoo!. Would have done more, but I don't have brakes yet. Will bleed the system tomorrow - then wash the car - it's filthy.
Once done, I just need a nice warm day I can break in the clutch and then the real fun begins.
I'll try to post pics shortly.
Jesse

Way to go Jesse, you've put an incredible amount of work in to get to this point.
Nice job.

Thanks Matt. I've been trying to figure out how many man-hours were put into it this winter. I'm guessing the number is around 175 hours realistically between painting, engine removal, engine build, engine install, cleanup, detailing, etc. I also think I spent between $4.13 and $17.44 on parts and labor this winter, lol. Riiiiight. Good God I hope the fucker drives okay when I get it on the road.
