Jeff,
Sounds like Matt's father is most comfortable with the dealer doing the timing belt. After a lengthy talk with him, I can understand why. The main reason is the dealership has insurance to cover their butts if they should screw up. We don't. I don't know the techs at Knetter, so I wasn't going to talk down about them or their work in order to convice him to let one of us do it.
Can't wait to see your guys new car Mike! You're a lucky kid! Take care of that thing. Remember, there's a lot of responsibity that comes with owning one of these cars.

I can understand why Mike's dad would prefer taking it to Kuettner. If you go there, ask Richard (the service manager) if Brad or Matt can work on your car. They're both good guys and do a decent job. Mike, also make SURE you get the W3SI discount on the parts from Dennis at Kuettner in the parts dept. Kuettner is more expensive than what you'll find if one of the club guys does it, or Jeff at M3, but Kuettner does a good job too. They've done plenty of work on my car, Scott's (SJ) car, and in fact, my track car is there right now too. Mike saw it in the parking lot tonight when he dropped his off, hehe. I think we're pretty lucky living around here where we have guys in the club that are willing to help do stuff for cheap (beer) such as Greg, Joe, Mike, etc. and someone like Jeff who charges a fair rate, and a dealer like Kuettner who is a good alternative too. Not many other cities/states do you have such a good base of tech support for these cars. BTW, Matt (one of the mechanics at Kuettner) is my neighbor. He lives 4 houses down from me or so. Jesse

Sorry for the off topic post Mike.
Jeff, Took it to Kuettner to get some diagnostic tests done. Mainly ABS (which has never worked and I want to find out if its the hydraulic unit before I actually spend time replacing it), and checking the whole AWS system (I have a weird feeling AWS may not be working right but I dont know for sure). In addition, I could not break loose those ps lines underneath the car - they are frozen solid, so I'm gonna have Kuettner break them loose for me. My fear though is that they will have to replace the lines BEHIND the leaking ones (because they wont be able to get them off without ruining em) which run all the way up above the rear diff. OH man, that won't be good if they have to change those lines too. Could be bad news - I think the whole rear diff has to be dropped to do that) But screw it. I just wanna get the car tip-top and ready for next years racing season. This years is screwed I think.
Figures, blow a motor, get it replaced in about 3 weeks time. Blow a power steering line, and spend 12 weeks fucking around with it, argh.
J

Mike, I saw your VR4 today at Kuettner when I picked up the track car. Brad was working on it and doing the 60k service. Spent some time jawing with him about "this and that". I'm sure your car is in good hands. It looks nice too, seems like it's in really good shape overall. Nice find! Can't believe you found that so close to home.
I gotta get up extra early tomorrow morning so I can pick up Krispy Kreme donuts for all the Mitsu guys in the shop and for Dennis in parts. I told em when I dropped the car off I'd bring em something later this week. They're good people there, and it never hurts to show appreciation once and awhile with our preferred Mitsu dealer. Speaking of those guys, Matt, one of their wrench turners, will probably show up for part of the Rural Cruise gathering since we'll basically be meeting in his back yard this Saturday
