HOLY CRAP this is an oldie. I didn't buy my car, I stole it from a one-armed man. I figured I was doing him a favor.

Well Greg, you certainly did get a new 3s project My story began during my high school days. I spent my time in HS driving an automatic toyota corolla. All the while I would read about the latest speedster in popular mechanics. I was severly speed deprived. I wanted a fast car soo bad. Not long ago I was in the market for a new car and I chanced upon an ad for a 1992 vr4 for $6500 in the newspaper in Madison. That day, I called the number to feel out the owner for how negotiable she would be. Then I drove out to see the car, with 500 dollars cash in hand and a blank check. I talked to the girl at length about why she was selling it, and eventually she asked if I wanted to take it for a spin. So I did and the moment I took it out on the highway and put the pedal down I realized that I had to buy the car that day. I also knew in the back of my mind that the car would probably need a lot of TLC. I offered the girl a sly $3500 and she took it!!! Well, I later found out the car needed a new clutch (After I was stranded in La Crosse), then it needed new wheel bearings (all 4), two new tie rods and a bunch of other misc things. The good news was that it had a brand shiny new 25 Spline Transmission and Transfer case!!! I will be looking to rebuild my engine and upgrade my turbos / fuel / exaust this spring. Jason

Wow It seems like forever to have gotten to this point ! BUT it's MINE NOW ALLL MINE! Now let the fun begin again of tweeking! I never thought I would have 2 Stealths in my yard at the same time. I feel alittle selfish having 2. My wife's comment is ," Were in the hell are you going to put all these cars?" Double stack???, New garage Honey????? I'll wait till spring to sell some thing. I guess.. Thanks For the walk Greg! Made me laugh! Tim

I've had four Stealths and one 3000 so far, 3 are dead (not by me) I kept buying and selling until I got what I wanted. My first one was a white ES SOHC, that car was sweet I wish i still had it, I bought from an old guy in Stevens Point, it was a 92 with only 40k on it. It still smelled new! I took that one to NG1 and then sold it to a kid who tried to go under a large truck with it. The second was a green ES DOHC. A nice car but nothing special, had that one for only a couple of months, that one was killed a year later, rear ended to death! Then of course the red R/T. This one was a mutt, had an automatic in it and really didn't get going untill around 40 mph sold that to a guy in Rib Lake who blew it up. The fourth was a red 94 3000gt I had at UMG last year, it had only 37k on it and really hauled ass for a non-turbo. Sold that too. My favorite, and I think its just because of the color is my 92 R/T beige. This car was located east of Wausau on a farm. I would drive by it once a month because of my work. It sat under a large pine tree for a year, during the winter just the nose of the car was sticking out of the snow bank. I cursed the guy who owned it everytime I drove by. I finally got the nerve to stop and ask him if he wanted to sell it, ( he sure as hell didn't want to drive it). he thought he had a Viper or something, he wanted 10k for it! The car was in terrible shape, it had about an inch of dog hair in it, the carpet was so dirty I though it was grey, turns out it was tan, and it ran like shit. Burped and farted the whole time I test drove it. After that he informed me it was his sisters car and she had live in Florida, he bought it from her drove it up here and parked it for two years. I left him my card and told him when he was ready to sell it give me a call. About six months later he called and said I could have it for 5k if I still wanted it.........hell ya, at that time that was a good price, I would have paid 6k for it. When I came to pick it up the tires were in the same ruts I left it six months earlier. Hauled her home, put new gas in it, hooked up the ground wire, put in new plugs and wires, and presto the thing ran great, I spent the next year just cleaning it up. The pine sap had eaten the finish off the tail gate so I had that repainted and the rear bumper, the rest is history.

the first time i knew that i wanted a 3000gt was when i played gran tourismo 3 and i bought a green one, i just loved the look of it... about the beginning of september i stumbled my way to 3si, where i found out that a dodge stealth was the same as a 3000gt, so i started looking and trying to convince my parents... i found a 92 stealth r/t with about 75,000 miles in early november in illinois on 3si, the guy agreed to drive all the way to my house to try to sell the car. i bought the car for 3500 and already have about 100 into it.. it only took me about a month to grow my love for the 3s now i know that it will never go away

*thanks Jason for puting his into paragraph form*
Last time I posted I was selling the stealth and getting a TT. Well that happened, yay.
The stealth went once it hit the local paper, a middle aged guy who used to have a base model bought it. He didnt mind it being an automatic and since it was mildly modded for an NA, plus the color really got him. I remember dropping the car off for him I had found a Sandstone VR4 in New Hampshire and remember talking to him about it, but it was all talk.
A week later I'm sending out 9200 cash to a dealer in New Hampshire. Buying something that my parent's can't even compromise, buying a car across country unseen.
Let me tell you, once you dump your savings on something and have to wait 2 weeks to even see it, those 2 weeks are hard.
I finally got the phonecall, and eagerly drove off to see the new beauty. I remember pulling into the parking lot where it was waiting, and there she was. Stunning, god I love my color.
Hopped in and took off, noticed that the battery was nearly dead (had to be jumped to start) and was on E. Hmm, problem. So I drove around a little to get the feel of it, and at the time it felt fast as hell. Pulled into a gas station, and by habit I shut the car off. F*CK.
Roy came and helped me move it, then we went and got a new battery. Napa ripped me off, so they can rot in hell.
Car is currently sleeping in my garage, and all she really needs is a little more TLC to make me happy for while. Need to fix that boost problem and it needs new tires, and the rear precat gutted.
The stealth was my first 3/S and I do miss it, but I replaced it with something equally rare and beautiful, so I don't regret my decision at all.
Maybe Adam does, he hates my f*cking downpipe.

Well my future plans for the car were to throw some 18" on there, so I was waiting to buy rims and tires together. However my current tires are crap, so I was thinking of using the current 17" rims for drag only, and getting some halfway decent tires just for that... street/strip kinda thing.
Someday when I have money I'll upgrade the rims, so I haven't even priced rims for the current 17" setup yet.

Mine story is pretty simple. I grew up in a family Ford dealership in the U.P of MI eh!! Only saw one of these in the early 90's and didn't know about the 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering etc... I just knew it was expensive and rare. Now flash to summer 2004 a good friend calls me and tells me he bought 93 3000GT VR4. I said what the heck did you buy? He said one of the coolest cars that I have always wanted. I had to get on Ebay to search on what the car looked like. My favorite car has always been a 300Z so it was neat see how similar they were. Now my friend is pretty wealthy and single so he has all the toys and this was just another one. Then 2 weeks after buying the VR4 he buys a 98 BMW 3 series convertible, so with his 2000 Eclipse GT he had 3 cars to drive home from where he works Eau Clare, WI back to his house in the U.P. He let me drive the VR4 and I was hooked big time. He wanted a BMW M3 convertible late that summer and said he was going to sell the 3 series and the VR4. At that point in time the cash flow was low from the wife spending too much. He said he would store if for the winter if I would have the cash in the spring. I waited until the cash flow was pretty good and got the car this past June. He sold the 3 series the following week and a week after that he bought a M3 Convertible used for 42K. Two weeks later he bought a Lexus I300 for 20K!!! So he is now back to owning 3 cars. All I care about is that I have a VR4 in awesome shape. Growing up in a car dealership I have seen cars come and go. Everything was for sale for the right price. Now this car is all mine and not for sale. I plan on keeping it for a real long time. I love all the comments I get from people that see it. They can't believe the car is 12 years old, they think its one a few years old.
Kyle

Well one Saturday morning my wife says she's thinking about putting her 97 Camaro Convertable up on our local Craig's List, to trade for a Pick Up Truck. I at the time had a 95 GMC Jimmy that was a clean perfect running Truck. but not my style. I need something that says "HEY LOOK AT ME"! So I put MY Jimy on Craigs List and did a "straight trade" for my 93 Dodge Stealth ES.

I first heard about the 3000GT back in high school (8-9 years ago) on some site on the internet.
I was amazed by the active aero, suspension, and exhaust systems. I thought it was the junk with all of its high tech gadgetry.
A 320 HP high tech monster than ran a 13 second 1/4 mile. They looked hot, I had to have one.
4 1/2 years later I'm in the marine corps stationed in 29 palms ca. I have a plymouth neon thats paid off, no bills to speak of, and a decent amount of disposable income.
I start scouring the internet for fun. I see a 3000GT and start reading.... I start to figure out which body parts I can live without to afford one. Through a financial miracle, I manage to get $7K together in the bank.
I narrow my search to a 95 or 97 black VR4 with tan leather. I can't honestly remember why I picked those two years. I find a gorgeous 97 online, call them, and start to gather intel.
I bought my car over the internet folks. I had the local garage go over, pick the car up and test drive it. They called me and told me what was wrong with it (cracked windshield and worn tires) and I was game.
I called my father on the side of the road on the way home from work that day and said "dad., I need $14K by tomorrow." He said "ok."
I bought the car (from texas) and had it shipped to cali. I ended up with a 97 with 43K miles on it, without any of the "cool gadgets" I admired so much. I paid $19,900 for my 97 VR4, which is prob. the most anyone on this site paid for their 3S. KBB value was between $24-30K at that time.
/End novel.

I saw my first 3000gt in 91 when they first came out, and wanted one. Unfortunately my income didn't alow for that kind of car, so I would have to wait. Well 14 years and a divorce later, I decided last winter this was the next car I was going to buy. I looked locally for six months until in June I saw an ad in the Journal for a Pearl White 95 vr-4 with 78,000 miles for $11,999 at dealership in Waukesha. The soonest I could get off of work to look at it was Saturday evening. I got there just before closing, and I was surprised to see the car was in very good condition and needed nothing. The salesman said we could still take it for a ride. After driving it he said "well we can go back inside and fill out the paperwork." It was now after closing and I told him I wasn't much one for making snap decisions. I would come back on monday if I wanted it. On later reflection, I kicked myself for not buying it right then and there. On monday I called in sick, and went to the dealership. Talked them down to $11,500 and drove home my new vr-4, and have not regretted it.

I bought my first 3/S waaaaaay back in January of 1996. It was a gorgeous 93 Stealth R/T: http://mn3s.org/first-stealth1.jpg Damn I loved that car. It seemed super fast at the time, since all my previous cars were econo cars. After owning it for a year and a half, I needed something faster. In July of 1997 I bought my first twin turbo, a black 95 R/T TT: http://mn3s.org/curt952.jpgThe obsession continued and in October of 1998, we had our first MN 3/S gathering. In June of 2000, I crashed the 95 R/T TT during a rural cruise: http://www.mn3s.org/crash2.jpgTook two months to find another identical black 95 R/T TT, and in August of 2000 flew to Georgia to pick it up: http://mn3s.org/members/photo-stealth16.jpgLike all good disorders, I wasn't happy with just one. While browsing through Autotrader in October of 2003, I came across a 95 Spyder VR4 in the Twin Cities. I had to go check it out. I had the extra garage space now, so I bought it: http://mn3s.org/members/curt-spyder1.jpgIts been a fun ride on the 3/S train. later, Curt
