And to think, all you needed to do was get a bottle of 409 and a rag to get the dirt out.

Finally got word from DR that my ported lower intake shipped today. Wow, that took forever. At least it's on it's way here. Motor could very well be put back together within 2 weeks... *crosses fingers*
My headers, precat elims, and turbo exhaust housings are getting coated right now. I expect those to ship later this week/early next week.
Gettin' Itchy!

Got my headers, precat eliminators, and turbo exhaust housings back. However, grr, I'm wondering if they screwed up and didn't add the 2nd race coat for increased temperatures. It was supposed to be a 2-coat process but I didn't see it listed on the bill even though I wrote it down on the order form. Coulda been an oversight. I'll find out monday...

Damn, Jesse. Looks like all you have left to do is 'dip' the block and you'll be finished... hahaha.

I believe the parts should have a bluish hue to them.

Eh, why would you say that? The bluish hue usually comes from untreated pipes. Treated pipes (if done properly) retain their look unless temps exceed the coating temp. I spoke with MaryAnn this morning about the pipes. They are dual coated as I asked for. TLHB (race) coated and cermacoated so they are good for 2000 degrees with a full 3 year warranty again any discoloration or peeling or defect. So, as of now, the exhaust housings on the turbo, the precat elims, and the headers are coated at 2000 degrees. Woot. Now it's time to install them. The reason the race coat wasn't on the bill, and they forgot to charge me, was because I sorta rushed MaryAnn on Friday because we worked out a hand-delivery instead of having to ship them. She went out of her way to deliver them to me on her way to Rockford, and in her haste to get out of work and on the road and with my parts, she made a billing mistake. More information here: http://www.classiccoatings.com/ceramic.htm

Jesse thanks for the link I've been trying to find info about them. Everyone I asked around here knew there was a place in Sheboygen but didn't know the name.

Update:
Both turbos installed today. Taking forever... Aftermarket parts are bleeping bleep for lining up and getting things to play nice together. It's hard to imagine it taking 3+ hours to install front and rear turbos, especially when the motor is out, but... believe it. Put turbos on, pull them off, put turbos on, pull them off... all because one little thing doesn't line up in a chain of events due to aftermarket parts (turbos, precat elims, headers, feed lines, etc.). Not only do things not line up, but even when you finally get them to, you can't use a socket, oh no. You're stuck with having to use a wrench and moving it 1/100th of an inch at a time. Then, when you get everything tight except the last nut, you realize, OH, I need to take EVERYTHING off again because this particular nut CAN'T be tightened with everything bolted together on the engine. So, pull parts off (water lines, oil lines, precat elims, turbos, etc.), tighten that one nut seperately, put all parts back on again, and hope the next thing lines up and the process begins again. Oh, and add the issue of having to be extra careful not to scratch or screw up any of the ceramic coatings, powder coatings, etc and you have yourself a barrel of fun.
Merely writing about the complexity of this job doesn't do it justice. I can thank DNP for wonderful *COUGH* design on their products. A shining example - Precat eliminators. Designed like ASS so that you can't even fit a standard sized nut on them because they will jam up against the pipe itself. Washer under the nut? yeah, forget that too unless you GRIND part of the washer off. Want headers? Sure, no problem, but make sure you take a grinding wheel to some of the studs coming out of the block because DNP decided to design the header in such a way that the studs coming out of the block will gouge the header and prevent it from sealing against the heads. Then, when you've done that, design them in a way where you can't possibly even FIT a nut on the studs without some serious fanageling and assorted bullshit. Oh, and least of all, let's not forget. Want to use the dipstick? Be prepared to bend the living shit out of it to get it to fit around the front precat and O2 sensor. There's at least 10 other things I could bring up. But I'm ready for bed. Tired now.
Oh yeah, FUN. Just ask Jeff.
J
PS - On a side note, the engine is looking fucking sweet as hell. I will try to take some pictures tomorrow. More impressive than I had imagined.
PSS - Due to the complexity of installing everything, ANY work I do on the car in the future as far as headers, turbos, etc. WILL (and I mean WILL) require the motor to be pulled. There's absolutely NO way with all this aftermarket shit that the turbos could be swapped while in the car. Like Jeff said, I'd better hope these DR turbos aren't defective out of the box. The car might sit for a year before I bother doing this again, grr.
