Ok heres the deal. My g/f has a 2000 Cougar 4 cylinder with a 5 speed. and I have a DOHC Stealth R/T auto I think our quarter times are pretty close for stock cars which i have light modding to my car, but the other day we were gettin on the highway and i had the pedal floored and she was pulling me. I really don't think that should b happening, how can her 4 banger be pulling a DOHC 6 cylinder with mods?? Are atx's just that slow.

could very well be in the auto to manual. Or in the gearing. If she has close ratio gears to give the car more pep on the get-go you'd be lagging behind until your car came into it's own. what speed did you start at, what speed did you go to? I've got two 9bs if you need them... and g/f that can drive stick = keeper.

LOL I wish I had stick cuz I can drive stick too, we prolly started at 20ish and sped up to 60-65mph. Those 9b's sound real nice right now but I don't really have the funds for all of the parts and sure don't have a clue about modifying the parts for the tt conversion. Maybe I should just get sum nitrous lol or just get a few extra mods and get my car in tune if thats what needed.

I dunno, I think that if she has some close gears, (never driven a cougar. had a probe, does that count?) that's your reason. the closer the gears, the better the acceleration, but at the expense of top speed, in general for the same numbr of gears. you also have to look at the time spent shifting, but against an auto, probably not a problem. It was probably a good second gear pull for her, maybe into third...? where as what gear where you in? Did it have to downshift when you romped on it, or did you have it in a lower gear already? how many speeds does the 3S automatic have? It can't be more than four. That should help her also. Quote: get my car in tune if thats what needed. another interesting point. her car has five years on yours. new plugs, new plug wires, if you have a K&N filter make a cold air wall out of some aluminum you have lying around. how's your alignment? basic stuff can pick up some time. and 93 octane to make sure timing is not being pulled.

Yep currently running 93 octane, alignment is pretty good. When I stomped on it, tranny kicked'er down to 1st from what I remember. Getting my shift kit would probably help that part of the equation just don't know of anyone able to do it around here. She was in 2nd and maybe 3rd a lil bit when she was pulling me. I was thinking about eliminating the cat cuz I know I will get a good gain from there but don't really feel like polluting more than I need to and I don't want the car to go even more rice on me. But we'll see.

When I had my ATX base, the car seemed faster from a stop than from a slow roll. Even if I reached over and turned the OD off, it never used 1st gear for best accelleration.
Race her from a stop.

Race her from a stop. Really you thought your car was faster from a stop? I've thought and been told that the atx's best chances in a race are from a roll. But I do think I can take her from a stop I'll have to see if she'll race me from a stop I'll have to use the excuse "I have to see if I need a tune up or if its something else" lol.

The car also seemed to accelerate better if I put the shifter into L and left it there. The computer will still shift at the red line. Can't be good for the tranny though.
