My mothers liberty has been making this blood curdling WHEEEEEENNNN. whenever she locks/unlocks her doors. The passenger side stopped working completely a few days ago, and I finally peeled the door panel back to look at it the other day. I hit the entire linkage up with WD-40 and wiggled it until it was moving smooth, but it still squeals. Unlocks now, but does not lock. I don't want to take it out, cause like all auto-locking mechanisms it's a b***h to get out of a dime sized hole, and a mess with all the glue to make it water tight. Plus it's held in there with plastic tabs that are giving me that "go ahead and screw with me buddy, I'm just waiting to break" look.
so what I'm looking for is someone who has messed with these actuators(on any car) before and can tell me if it is stripped and needs to be replaced, or if I can get more serious about hosing it down with lube and bring it back from the dead.
thanks, Adam

It's got a bazillion miles on it. well out of warranty. The benz is the only car in my family with under 100k on the clock. And the 94 Grand Prix, which has 98 miles on it... but that's a special case. I think that is the only car that we have ever bought new, also.
I personally would like to sell the piece of crap(liberty) but my mother got attached to it now... *sigh* I don't like the way it rides or drives.(I'm a car guy though, I hate SUVs in general) I think the interior is totally cheaped out. half the button pannels have broken plastic tabs so they barely push in. The stearing has WAY to much play for a top heavy short wheel base SUV. The back seats are lame. I hate chewing on my knees. It's not big enough to put much of anything large in the back. It feels funky when shifting. It loves to bounce off the rev limiter before shifting if you have an "emergency get on the gas" problem. wanders while going down the highway. probably something to do with way to much play in the steering.
Oh well. We can't all drive stealths, otherwise they'd suck like hondas... well probably not.
