My neice learned how to crawl forward tonight. I put a picture of a Stealth in front of her and she went forward about a foot to get to it. True story. So on to the question. I'm thinking about picking up one of those power wheels barbie corvettes and making it look like a stealth. Do you guys think that it's do-able? Anyone want to help?

So I did some checking online today at the power wheels website. There is no more barbie corvette. She now ether drives a jeep or a bug. I like jeeps. There cool. But going from a corvette to a bug. lame.
So I'm going to look for one on e-bay, or if anyone has one that their child has now outgrown drop me a line.

Make a vacuum formed polycarbonate body (like used with RC cars) and put it on the jeep. Make the form yourself and use a shop vac plus a garbage bag to do the work.
The other option is fiberglass which is easy to work with and correct mistakes.
May I suggest a 3000GT Spyder VR-4 since it has a wide opening on the top.
Damn it now I want to do this.

I was planning on fiberglass becasue I have at least limited experience in that. forming it out of plastic would not suck, either though. Do you know how to do it? I wouldn't mind talking to you about it and then giving it a shot. Thanks for the site. those do look really sweet, but i'd feel bad cutting up a 500 dollar vehicle, and I think I already have a couple leads on a pink Barbie corvette. If you want to help my father (Grandpa ) has offered to supply beer while working on the project. I don't think he's met Joe yet, though. Make and model can be determined later, once I get a better handle on what I'm starting with.

I'm tempted to go and find the $160 Power Wheels Ford F150 and build a body kit for it. The problem is this vehicle doesn't have a high speed mode so it doesn't make a good 3/S. The Street Scene Silverado might be a better canidate at $290. I'd use everything but the stock body and make a 3000GT body that fit it right. The question is at what scale does a 3000GT fit the toy right. For a VR-4 the basic dimensions are as listed. (inches) Length: 179.7 Width: 72.4 Wheel base: 97.2 Height (Hardtop): 49.3 http://stealth.senecac.on.ca/frames/dimensionsm.htmlI can't find the dimensions on the Power Wheels. The 3/S body could be stretched easily enough. http://www.fisher-price.com/us/powerwheels/Fiberglass is a great medium even if it is a bit itchy. Polycarbonate is easy to work with but to get good results a form would be needed.

WOW... Want to scale it correctly and everything. I just wanted to make it so that you could tell it was a 3/S
I'm not that worried about power, because of the fact that she's still very little, and if she wants to go fast later I can find different motor and a 18V battery from a cordless drill or something.

I would want projection headlights that work and functional tail lights for safety reasons and wow factor. I would make all parts of the body to one aproximate scale. I wouldn't make a scaled four seater, that is way too much work. There is a 1/4 scale IRL DOHC Olds V8 model that would make a good power plant for extra power, but for that cost you could buy the child a real 3000GT VR-4. http://www.autoshoppingcenter.com/modelcars/engines/

I was thinking that if you made it look like a first gen you could do snake eyes. And make them turn on whenever you step on the pedal.
I was planning on just doing one seat. The seat that it came with, and maybe changing the dash to make it look more like a stealth. (Maybe a boost gauge that jumps up when you step on the gas). maybe a seat belt that doesn't retract.
Those engines are sweet, but I think that's in the long term. I think that stage two upgrade engine would come from a cordless drill. They have plenty of power for now. I don't think her first car should require a helmet.

Here is a thought, I have seen Lamborghini motorized peddal cars. Older though. Several years a go I saw one at a rummage sale. If I remember correctly there is no top, it has a slanted windshield, and it had a spoiler. This car body style might be easier to get to look like a Spyder or a VR-4. Just a thought.
