I know it's not that big of a deal to most of you motorheads, but I just thought I'd share. First-timer with turbos, supporting, tuning. After keeping an eye out all spring for some 13t's or 15g's, I finally just decided to go with Rob Beck and get his 13t's. I had originally bought a pair of 13c's for a dirty rotten steal a couple years ago, but as time progressed, I figured I might regret not going a little bigger, so I gave a guy on 3si a dirty rotten steal on the 13c's + 450cc's. While waiting for the turbos, I've gotten pretty much set: EM blue, walbro (not hotwired or jumpered or anything yet), LM-1 zip-tied to console , 550cc waiting to go. I hope I don't regret the 550's vs. the 450's I sold, but if so, I can work with the emanage on timing - just not as hassle-free as it might have been. Or I can add AFPR, too. Anyways, if my lazy rear can get moving when I get them (soon!), I'll end up with a fun little driver. Goals? Blow something up or break drivetrain parts. WooHOO! Shoot, I think I just tinkled a little.

I see your location says De Pere? So do you have a vr4 or stealth? What color?

Gray Stealth, 92 TT. It's a non-OEM color, House of MaaKo or some such. A little more gray than sandstone, I think. Popups are painted body color (Don't blame me, I got it that way), black roof, Konig Villains. Usually followed by a plume of various-colored smoke. Nah, just a healthy shot of VSS-blow in the morning, mostly.
And the red 93 3000GT base, Ye Olde And Faithful. Stockety-stock stockin' stocker.
I love 'em both, but for some reason, I tend to drive the Stealth more.

I had DR500s, EM Blue, and Denso 550s.
I loved my car then. but I wanted it to go faster.
I think you will be fine on the 550s and the 13ts.

Good to hear.
Heh, it's always faster. When I get bored with the 13Ts, I'd better start pimping the interior. Because when I tell my wife I need 19T, TD05, or big single, I'll be living in the Stealth. *rimshot*
What color curtains go with banana wing?

What color curtains go with banana wing? A wise man once told me, "Adam, I needed the fast car and the guitar to get the girl. Then, when I got the girl, she made me sell the guitar and the car to be respondsible. I got what I asked for. I shouldn't have asked."

Update, got the turbos on Friday, spent some time on Saturday digging in. Both 9b's are out and sent cores back to Beck today.
I don't work very fast, because I like it that way. Everything went perfectly on the remove, with only one dumb exception. After breaking for supper, I headed back out to the garage to start on the rear. Front was out, so I stood admiring my work, as I do, and collecting my thoughts.
It was at this point I notice that I had 2 banjo bolts for coolant from the front 9b on my bench, and only 1 banjo bolt for the oil. So I started looking around for the second oil banjo bolt. I had been futzing with one earlier between the old and new turbos, because it has to be rethreaded for the 13t cartridge. Guess I just wanted to prove to myself, "Yup, doesn't fit."
1.5 hours I looked. I $hit you not, I spent 90 minutes looking for that carn sarn bolt. Turned 1/2 of my garage upside down. Dumped and sorted freaking garbage.
I never did come up with it. Took me that long crawling around on my garage floor to realize that there's only one oil banjo bolt per turbo.
I debated posting that in the FAIL thread vs. here.
ANyway, back on track now. Install commences at my leisure sometime in the next 5-7 days. If that's the worst of my problems, I'll be happy.

Mostly done with the install.
Some heat shield modification left.
Waiting for intake tubes to get here. The stock rear was torn near the clamp to the turbo, so I got some DN pipes. Interesting note, the service manual torque spec on hose clamps is 3 ft-lbs., something I hadn't realized. Wow, I've been WAY over-torquing those things. No wonder it ripped.
Base correction for the 550's, and o2's are cycling happily at idle.
Ran it for a while, no fluid leaks, good. I can hear an exhaust leak rattling, don't know how I managed that. I torqued and (at least) quadruple-checked everything. Service manual says 47 ft-lbs. for turbo to mani and o2 housing to turbo, and that's what I did. I guess I'll go in and bear down on them all a tad more.
I've now found my 2nd or 3rd bolt that someone previously had cranked an SAE nut on. Nothing major, little stuff, but come on - really.
Button up those loose ends, and I can get to tuning it.
Overall, that wasn't a horrible job to do. I'd choose it over a clutch or 120k, I guess. Pretty straight-forward, just a few weird things specific to the 13T's, and a good number of steps in general. Like most work on these cars, I could see doing it again a quite a bit faster.

Alot of people really reef down on the pre-turbo tubes. they do not have to be that tight because there is no pressure there. Only vacuum. The only reason that we leave them on to pressure test is other wise it is a huge PITA to pressure test the two seperate pipes.
I did not think the turbo swap was a easy as the 120k. but each to their own. Also, a clutch swap is really not that bad at all as soon as you add a cherry picker to your list of tools.

Haha, found my exhaust leak.
Apparently the torque spec for the EGR blockoff plate on the o2 housing is greater than "finger tight". Guess my "quadruple-checking" ran out before I got to the easy stuff. Sometimes, it really pays to shut it down and go again the next day.
Intake tubes, and rolling!

Or just find a hill-billy in Milwaukee who crawls under there without the cherry picker yeah. All I have in GB is a skinny white boy and a friend with a goat. meaning a cherry picker is essential. Oh, and good find on the EGR block offs. those guys can be tricky.
