So after sitting since May I finally found time to pull apart the red car.
What did I find?
The timing belt idler pulley and tensioner pulley are shot to the point of the ball bearings have fell out of them. The waterpump bearings are shot and the waterpump is leaking. The timing belt is half melted and half shredded. It was glued to the pulleys and gears. I had to cut it up just to get it pulled out of there. The timing belt lower cover has holes in it where the pulleys wore there way through it and I had to break it to get it out. The timing marks on the cam gears are perfect, but I haven't checked the crank to see where that was at. I think there is a decent chance of valve damage.
Possible causes?
Too much tension on the Tbelt.
70k miles since the last 60k just bad bearings / normal wear and tear.
Water pump leakage got into the bearings and caused premature failure.
other ideas?
What should I do?
The chassis and engine have 210,000 miles.
The transmission was rebuilt 10,000 miles ago.
The white car is sitting out in the snow cuz I got the POS red car in the garage.
