So my TT Stealth has been down now 1 year ... A TOAST to my Ride HERE! HERE! So my Dad and I get a JDM engine a few months ago, we cleaned it up did the 60K parts, new fuel filter, clutch, and all the gaskets that go with doing this switch, no head gasket done . Leak down pre rebuild was equal across the board. Spark pugs Irdum NGK's. MSD wires. new oil cooler and all the lines.
We get it to the ground after 5 days back in July when it was god awful hot and this is what happened ......
The car ran rough for a good 20-30 min. Upon acceleration it hesitated but also like SURGED / sputtered???????
Ok it got better as we test drove it around. It pulled hard on the on ramps ect. But in any gear it seems just as you eased into the peddal it would SPUTTER/ jerk sightly or you could call it surge???? Then go away.
I decided to drive the car home 30 miles . Onthe way 20 min into the ride holding the car at 60 mph became interesting, It started to backfire and sputter and loose speed. LET ME NOTE ! I had 1/2 tank of gas that had been sitting 11 months SO I fillled the tank with some Premium before the trip home.
I continued to drive thinking BAD GAS???? it will work it's way out....
It started to rain 5 miles from my house. The car went to HELL !!!!!!!!!! 1st it " Sceamed at me" Litteraly hit the gas no boost and the scream! 2nd Loss of power big time!!! 3rd back fire - back fire!!!!!!! made it into the yard..... It acted as if it missing. I tried to drive it the next day round the block and it was a nightmare I don't think I ever made it past 2nd gear .
I flat bedded the car back to my Dad's shop.
1 week later He said , the rear turbo junk .
That was 2 months ago .
Parts We used from the doner engine; coils , turbos , oil pan. So now I am on the path to put back into the car both turbos that had been with the other engine ( they are perfectly fine )
What else could all this rough running be? What else should I do?
I have only driven this car 5000 miles since I got it and have made 15 payments. HELP! TIM

check for a good spark from the coil pack. Verify all plug wires are connected properly.
check your plugs. Are any of them fouled out? If one/some of them are, try swapping out the injectors on that one. Injectors can fail stuck open. Put a new plug in that cylinder while you're at it.
Oh yeah, buy a set of ngk coppers and gap them at .034. Could have started as spark blowout and then fouled the plugs.
that's about all of the easy stuff I can think of.

Have a data logger Tim? If so do you notice anything wierd going on?
Where are you located, If I remember correctly I thought you were near Kenosha from a previous post.

Sorry no Data logger.....
The MAS is plugged in.
So at this point you could start the car and it will idle and seems to run smooth , BUT go down the road whole nother story.
INJECTORS.... humm they came from the doner engine also!!!! I didn't remember that.
they might be bad , the ones of the pulled engine are good.
I will get my hand on some coppers and see if that changes the story. Thanks , Tim

BTW I live in Bonduel , The car is presently in Neenah at my Dad's auto shop.

what year car? I have a shiver logger for a 94-95 that you can borrow to get this all figured out, if that's the right year.

I paid about $25 total for my 1st gen logger and cable on ebay. You should buy one if somebody in GB area can't loan you one. If you want the details of what you need just let us know.
Loggers are pretty easy to use, heck I figured out how to work mine all on my own.

Can you guys supply me with the info on what it is exactly I will be needing to buy off like e-bay . Do I need to stick with a name brand. Next step will be hooking it up . How hard is it ? Gosh I just dropped in this engine how hard could this be? right?
So what will the logger tell me? I have never seen one , but I hear it mentioned on the board all the time, please explain.

a logger will give you rpm, fuel injector pulse width, o2 sensor feed back, coolant temp, voltage, fuel trims, etc etc...
plus it will record settings that you want to capture, and post online, so that other people can see what your engine was doing when trying to diagnose it from a chair and a computer 300 miles away.
It's a tool that will help you see what your engine is doing. and the first gen ones are pretty cheap, so it's probably a wise investment.

Find yourself a donor ecu and have your ISC checked for shorted coils.

Tim,
If you need a logger setup drop me an email. You can get set up pretty cheap. You will need a Palm M100 or 105 (Cheap, $10-15 ebay) and a datalogger cable from ebay ($35 shipped). Get the one with the nice end connector that plugs directly into the harness on your car. Do not buy the one with the splade end connectors, they suck. There should be a hotsync cable with the palm. That is all you need to buy, the rest is free from the internet. Do a search on ebay motors for Stealth and datalogger and it should pop up.

Thanks a ton ! The cable is bought ( the correct ended one). And I got a palm also. it's on the way ! When I get them I come back and you can show me the next step. Greg, I am swaping coils also. I have a working coil pack that I will put in when I work on the car in the next week.

Boost leaks will cause surges in power. Ex: Vac lines not installed, or y pipe blow off or fault bov. This messes with the mas. Check your ecu like gregg said and find burnt spots. Check all fuses under the hood also. Fuel injectors also new plugs If you have a safc you might be dumping to much or little fuel in. I had 450cc on stock turbos at 15psi and clocked the injectors back 18% on a street tune and it pulled like a raped ape with no knock. Goodluck.
