Well the car has been out of storage for 2 weeks and one of the weeks it was sitting in an airport parking lot. Needed a new battery when I took it out of storage. I have email a few times about low idle. Well it seems to be doing that when I have the lights on or the air conditioning on. Sunday night something seemed a little weird. Car would start but is seemed like it was low on charge. THis morning I get up to travel to the airport and the battery is dead. I jump start the car and it fires up fast and runs good. I put the jumper cables in the rear, and shut the hood on my wifes vehicle and then out of now where the VR4 dies. I jump it again and take if for a ride and it seems like it is close to dieing when I come to a stop. I come back home because I know I will never be able to drive it 100 miles to the airport. I park it in the garage, it idles while I look for my voltmeter and just when I'm going to check it, it stalled and died again. I pretty much think its the alternator. I do have a positive battery cable end that should be replaced.
So now the fun part. Anyone here have a working alternator for a fair price? I see then can be pretty expensive for a rebuilt one. I also see I can rebuild one for maybe $70-80. This is my daily driver for the summer so I need to get and alternator to the U.P of Michigan by Thursday afternoon when I get back.
Thanks
Kyle

You can get the same deal call up carquest and tell them you are a small local shop( like based out of your garage) looking for that alternator and you have a 3000gt and the customer needs a new alternator and you will be there in 30 min to pick it up and they will cut you a big break. I think the core was like 100 so it came out to 260 with tax. Then you go back with your core for the 100 dollars. Never pay full price for anything unless you have to always look for discounts, movies, food, tickets, gas, books,.....etc it adds up to more money for mods. Thats how rich people become rich because they are cheap.

Thanks for your help guys. I have been in Georgia on business all week and the hotels frickin computer crapped out so I couldn't check any email. Plus I was so busy with customers from Japan who don't speak English. It was interesting. They did a lot of nodding and took a ton of pictures.
Anyway I was able to get my wife to order a rebuilt alternator from Auto Value for $166 with a 3 year warranty. Got a bit of a discount because I know one of the guys there. I thought about rebuilding mine but from what I could find its about $80+ in parts plus shipping and not sure how long it would last.
Greg thanks for the offer. I still need to send you some Spotted Cow anyway. It's just been so busy here. I have been in Georgia twice in the past 3 weeks. So hopefully I can get some beer to you in the mail soon.
As for removing the alternator I just used the guide on the stealth316 site and it didn't take too long to do. All the bolts came out fine without any problems. The hardests screws to get to were on the bottom of the fan. Now I just need to pick up my rebuilt and put it all back together.

Well the rebuilt alternater is back in. I did have to tighten the belt again because I had a slight squeal when reving the engine. All in all it was not that hard to do. The battery is new a few weeks ago. Old battery was 2 years old and they gave me credit for it so the new battery was only $24. Have my data logger plugged in and am reading about 14 volts at start up in the morning and it gets down to around 13.7- 13.5 after warm up. Right now my idle is still just a touch low, (578-650). Idle pops right back up when I turn on the air so I know the alternater should be working right.
So my next step is to turn up the idle just a bit. It's so low some times you think the car is going to stall at stop signs. This time of year I typically have the air on so I don't have to worry about the lower idle but I would still like to get it where it should be.
