O.K. I finally got tired of the clickity, clickity of the lifters and ordered a set of the new 99 lifters. Now what is the best way to prime the new lifters prior to installation. I have heard to use oil or diesel fuel and let them soak overnight. I know the diesel is thinner than the oil and probably gets in them better. But I'm running 15W50 Mobil 1 with maybe 2500 miles on it. If I use Diesel fuel will the bit of diesel that comes out mess up my oil? I know regular oil is able to absorb some gasoline without hurting its lubrication properties. I have heard that synthetic oils that get some gasoline contamination very quickly loose their lubrication characteristics. Granted the amount of diesel that would be in the oil would be minimal. So what should I prime with? I have about 3/4 of a quart of 15W50 that I was planning on using. Thanks for your help.
Also I notice in the manual that you should put some RTV under the gasket in the corners where it goes over the cam shafts. Is there any specific type of RTV to use?

I would suggest RTV gray for the valve cover gaskets. Even though it's meant to make a seal on an oilly surface, you should still clean it.
Don't use gas to prime your new lifters. Maybe use it to clean your old ones, but don't use it on the new ones.
You really don't need to "prime" the lifters to tell ya the truth. You can get away with installing them dry. No matter what, they're going to tick really loudly when you start the motor and will tick for some time until you drive around a bit.
If you really want to take the time to oil them, drain your old motor oil out, reinstall the drain plug onto the pan, and just pour fresh oil (whatever you run) over them before reinstalling the rockers. Then fill the motor with the leftover oil to the appropriate level.

The mitsu manual tells you to prime them with diesel.
My personal experience with that is you will still have lifter tick. When I soak them in oil prior to install, I rarely experience lifter tick.
You have to decide for yourself which method to use. Either seems to work, and they will eventually pump up either way.

Thanks for your input guys. I ordered the 99 lifters on the GB on 3SI on Thursday night maybe 5:00 pm. They arrived yesterday and my gasket set should be here today. I downloaded the picture someone made of the part that Mitsubishi uses to remove the lifters. I made one last night, I just need to get my friend to weld the handle on. When finished I will let you know how it went. If the tool works good I will make sure to pass it on for others to use. After I install the lifters should I pull the main fuse and crank over the engine a bit to get oil to them or just start the car right up. Thanks again for your help

P.S. I have 1/2 quart of 15W50 sitting on the shelf from when I changed oil a few months ago that I will soak the lifters in the night before.

It doesn't seem to do anything - or at least that's my experience with the diesel.
Bunk - I'd pull the fuse for a few cranks.

Well the 99 lifters went in on Sundayafternoon. I made the "L" shaped Mitsubishi tool to install them. The tool made installing them so easy, only a one person job. The fronts was done in just less than and hour. I took it for a ride to make sure if there was a problem it would be limited to the front. I could tell then that most of the lifter tick was in the rear. The rear took alot longer and the rear most cam had a bunch of sharp edges from machining. I ended up with a bunch of really scratched up hands. Took the car for a ride and everything was fine until I kicked it down a bit.....Poof, hiss, chug,chug....stall. I forgot to tighten the turbo line on the drivers side. Tighened it up and the car runs great and is so quite. That ticking was starting to drive me nuts. I can't believe how quite my car is now.
If anyone is planing on installing lifters anytime soon just shoot me an email and I will send you the tool to use.

The funny part is that I'm not used to driving a car so quite now. All day today I have driven with the window down and radio off just to see if I can hear any little noise. Now all I hear is everyone else's loud car. Now I need to hook up the data logger again and do some logging.
Anyone installing lifters in the near future let me know so I can send you the tool.
