I have a 1978 Honda Goldwing sitting in my garage that I need to get rid of. It was bought a year and a half ago on E-bay for my senior design project for 700 dollars. It did not run, we thought the engine was seized, so my partners and I tore the entire bike apart. We brought the motor to a local goldwing specialist and he found that the motor was not seized, but the altenator had fried a bearing so badly that it would not allow the bike to roll. The cylinders all look perfect. So he replaced a few things that he thought looked bad, and we reinstalled the engine. Upon reinstallation of the engine we snapped one of two throttle cables that run to the engine. We did not plan on riding it more than around a parking lot so it has not been replaced. It has about 15 miles on it since the rebuild. It does not have a Windshield, but has the front cowling. Also has a WindJammer SS saddlebag package and "cruising" foot rests.
We bought the bike to put automatic training wheels on the bike. (they went up and down based on speed, and hid in custom saddlebags.) These do not come with the bike for liabity reasons.
All I'm asking for is the 700 dollars that we originally paid for it. It seems to be a fairly easy bike to work on. We had it stripped down to the frame for structural analysis, and got the whole bike back together without any issues. I believe that I also have the Hanes manual for it, which if I can find will go with the bike. It has 78,XXX miles on the odometer, which I believe to be truthful because the guy who rebuilt our engine said that after 150,000 miles the drive shafts get pretty sloppy in goldwings and need to be replaced. The drive shaft has very litttle play, but nothing that I would call sloppy. It has the 1 liter engine, which would probably make one hell of an engine for a go-kart or something.
I will try and post some pictures of it soon.
As it sits it will run and drive, but I would not take it any distance myself without the second throttle cable. I can deliver it to just about anywhere in mid wisconsin for a case of beer.
