I've owned 4 DSM's and 2 turbo Stealths in my time. My advise: If you don't have a lot of $$ to spend, go with the DSM. It is *much* cheeper to maintain.
Heck, tires alone for my car are almost $200 a piece for the cheep ones. The same tire in a 16" (or even a 17") are $90-110 cheeper.

Well, I have just dealt with a DSM, and Im afraid of going back to one again.... I just put $2,400 into this one because I was unfamiliar with it. The worst part of it all is that it doesnt run still... I sold it tuesday for 750 because it jumped 20 degrees on the exhaust cam due to a balance shaft belt snapping. Im afraid that this might happen again... It really was a quick ass car, it's just such a pain to deal with. My mom has had her Stealth ES and put 50,000+ miles on it since she bought it and hasn't had a single engine problem yet, although she is going to start running into some very soon. By the way, she is part of your club, in fact, I was at the UMG with you guys, we were the ones cruising around with you guys in white the Civic Hatchback.
However, I have learned that these DSMs are really really easy to work on, and the GSXs are really tempting right now! I don't know though, im looking for something that is unique though because I see the DSMs everywhere...

A turbo DSM requires just as much maintenance as a turbo 3/S. It's all in how you take care of it. You have to pay to play. You will hate a 3/S even more if something breaks because parts are pricer (and much harder to find). Heck, for what I paid for a new short block alone in my car, I coulda taken a crap DSM motor, rebuilt it with forged internals, crower rods, head work, cams, and a 20G.
People say these cars are hard to work on. Honestly, I prefer doing a T-belt in one of these motors over a DSM. The truth is, you have to have some patience. It's like that no matter what motor you work on.
DOHC 3/S's are not that slow. They are a little faster than a stock turbo DSM, and they cost about the same. The base Stealth I owned was an awesome car. It really went threw hell and just kept on taking it. Not nearly as fast as a turbo, but nothing ever went wrong with that car. I want to get another one.

well, here's what im looking for in my next car. I want a professional-looking car. It needs to be unique, I don't want to be like everyone else, and it needs to have some speed. I don't really want to go the DSM route again, because I didn't have good luck with mine and I overpaid for it. I didn't wait patiently and buy a turbo DSM, I got a Non-Turbo DSM, and it was an automatic. I put 9,700 miles on it and was driving to work after school and i heard this metal slapping noise as I was driving 80 on the expressway. Turns out, i come home and my timing belt was shredding, my balance shaft belt was a nice black powder in my timing belt casing, and i had bent at least 8 valves. I didn't know, nor did I think that I bent 8 valves, till I had a mechanic work on my car and we got down to the timing and tried to turn it over, turns out the car wouldn't turn over cuz the valves wer bent, and when we tried 3 times to turn the car over, we ended up bending all the valves. Damn DSMs. I was so tempted before buying any parts, to just pick up a 4G63T engine for 1000 and do an engine swap.... Stupid me, I didn't think about the valves at all...

Sounds to me like you've already made up your mind then. Better start saving your pennies.
