September 6th 2003 - W3SI Gathering a Huge Success!

We would like to thank all the members who helped make the September 6th event a huge success! There were 22 cars that participated, and a few other members who were unable to bring their car but still showed up to meet and greet everyone. The turnout was better than expected and the weather cooperated better than we could have hoped.

The event started at Sara's A&W Drive-In Restaurant where members introduced themselves to other members they haven't met before, old friends were reacquainted, and a few free oil changes to Kuettner Mitsubishi in Waukesha were given away as prizes. Lets not forget to mention, the delicious food and tasty beverages provided by the folks at A&W.

Afterwards, we caravanned down to Lincoln Memorial Drive in Milwaukee and took a cruise with a nice lake-view. Traffic was pretty intense due to a flashing red-light near McKinley Arena that was unexpected. However, we managed to make it through without losing anyone and started heading back up 794/94 past Miller Park and towards our next destination.

We arrived at Lucky Bob's Raceway around 4:00pm, a little behind schedule, but with with a reservation for the racetrack downstairs. Races ensued, and the winners of each race received a Mitsubishi hat. The race-cars themselves had a few problems during the hour of racing. Two had blown out tires, and another car started smoking! Luckily, we managed to get through the event with a minimal amount of injury and a lot of laughter to go along with the fun. Seemed like everyone had a good time.

Next was a trip out to the Waukesha Expo Center for the Highland Games and Celtic Fling festival. The ride out on I-94 was beyond words. I think our group of 20 or so cars lost track of the number of jaws-dropped, hand waves, nods, and other signs of appreciation from passing motorists. I can imagine it was quite the spectacle. Once we arrived at the Expo Center, we gave away the prizes donated by Import Power Online and GT-Pro. The big winner of the day was Dave Judy who won a Walbro 341 Fuel Pump, an item sought after by many members, congrats Dave! After taking a few group pictures in the parking lot, we made our way to the Celtic Fling festival. Unfortunately, we were running so late that the festival itself was nearly over. On the positive side, it gave everyone a good reason to socialize in the beer tent for roughly 2-3 hours before we wrapped things up.

Again, W3SI would like to express our thanks to all members who showed up for the event and helped keep the fun flowing. This couldn't be done without you. Thank you all for a wonderful and safe event.
